Push-Ups for Touchdowns
A more recent tradition, every time that the UK football team scores a touchdown, the Wildcat mascot does one-armed push-ups on a raised board, supported by male cheerleaders. Each time, the Wildcat increases his amount of push-ups to match the number of points on the scoreboard for UK. Unofficially, this tradition began with the 1978 Wildcat.
The "Cat" Walk
Kentucky Wildcat football fans have instituted the Cat Walk tradition, where fans line the entrance to Commonwealth Stadium and cheer on the team as they arrive at the stadium. The tradition has also been extended to road games, which has given the team an added boost as they take on competition in the rugged Southeastern Conference.
Midnight Madness
If there is one event that showcases the fervor of KY Wildcat fans, it has to be the inaugural practice of each basketball season. Fans camp outside UK’s Memorial Coliseum for days in hopes of securing of one the prized tickets for the sold out event. Midnight Madness is a celebration of the upcoming season, as fans get their first look at the veterans and new players that hopefully will hang another championship banner in the Rupp Arena rafters. The event is televised throughout the state and is often carried nationally as well.
