Playground Safety on the Monkey Bars
The children really enjoy playing on the playground equipment at recess. Unfortunately, there have been a few injuries with little ones who play on the monkey bars. We're teaching the children about ways to use the monkey bars in the safest manner. We want the children to avoid skipping rungs and swinging their bodies back and forth while hanging. These two practices have led to the children not being able to land on their feet after they drop to the ground.
We don't want to remove this activity from the children, but we need them to be safe at all times. Please take a moment to review these guidelines with your children. In addition, it could be optimal to have your children try using monkey bars outside of school with parents to see if this is an appropriate activity. Crossing the monkey bars can be a challenging task for some of our younger students and many of them don't seem to show much fear in their attempts. Thanks so much for helping to keep the children safe.

Mrs. Joan Fattorini Commemoration
Mrs. Joan Fattorini, Holland Elementary's former Reading Specialist, created a "favorite things" ceramic tile after her retirement in 2005. This beautiful tile has been framed and now hangs in the school library. Mrs. Fattorini shared her love of reading with Holland students for 40 years! Last Friday, past and present members of the Holland community came together to commemorate Mrs. Fattorini and display of her framed tile.
