Reflection from school mass
The following are reflections of Father Gordon's homily this week at school mass, as told by some of our third graders.
How can I be more holy? I can pray more and go to mass every day and tell people to be with God all their lives.
-Emmalee
God wants us to be good and kind to others, no matter what. He knows there's a lot of bad things in the world, but he tells us to be good. During Lent, we give up things to sacrifice like Jesus sacrificed his body for us. God wants us to do acts of kindness for others like giving the poor money or going to mass every Wednesday and Sunday, and to listen to our conscience.
-Marvins
We repent by praying, fasting, giving to the poor. We should listen to God. God gives us strength and ability. We confront our sins by facing and confessing our sins. We should always be kind to others. We should never be unkind to people because our hearts can turn bad by hurting other people by words.
-Shaniya
Lent starts next Wednesday. We have to confront our sins and repent. What I think the Gospel was about is that everything bad that goes into your heart and mind can spoil. So basically, all stuff bad gets into your head and makes you negative. That is why you shouldn't let all of this negative stuff into your mind. I can be more holy by going to mass and praying. Only God's love and forgiveness can cleanse your heart. We should all have a contrite heart and a holy soul. God's mission was to spread the Good News. To me, this mission was to stop all of this negativity in the world.

Reregistration for 2021-2022
Re-registration is open for current families. Reregistration for the 2021-2022 school year consists of two step:
- Submit the online application.
- Pay the registration fee of $225 per child by check, cash, or credit card in the front office.
Your child is not considered fully registered until both of these steps are completed. The deadline for this early reregistration is 3pm on Friday, Feb. 19th. After 3pm on the 19th, the registration fee goes up to $325 per child. Further, we will begin accepting new students, and you risk losing your child's spot at SJCS. If you need an extension on the registration fee, you must contact Mrs. Haas via email at thaas@stjosephwhschool.org before the 19th.

Catholic Schools Week
Family Movie Night was a beautiful evening outside with our school family enjoying SpaceJam.
Our PTO showered our parents with tokens of appreciation on both Monday and Friday during morning carline.
Many students and staff kicked off Catholic Schools Week at parish masses throughout the weekend.
Teachers were treated to sweet treats several times throughout the week, including a candy bar, hot chocolate, and Panera breakfast.
We celebrated Vocations by learning more about Father Jimson and Father Gordon from their taped interview of student questions.
While we couldn't have grandparents come to us this year due to COVID, we sent our love and appreciation to them.
Students went outside for Buddy Reading and enjoyed ice cream sandwiches.
We celebrated the 100th Day of School and showed our SJCS School Spirit.
Students in grades 3-5 zoomed with other classes of their grade level from our other Polk County Catholic Schools: Resurrection and St. Anthony.

Gospel Reading This Sunday
Gospel for Sunday, February 14:
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark.
A leper came to Jesus begging him, and kneeling he said to him, "If you choose, you can make me clean." Moved with pity, Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, and said to him, "I do choose. Be made clean." Immediate the leprosy left him, and he was made clean. After sternly warning him Jesus sent him away at once, saying to him, "See that you say nothing to anyone." But he went out and began to proclaim it freely, and to spread the word, so that Jesus could no longer go into a town openly, but stayed out in the country; and people came to him from every quarter.
The Gospel of the Lord.
