BIBLE
A miracle is something that only God can do. Jesus performed miracles to help people grow in faith and to prove that he is God.
Feeding of the 5,000 (Matthew 14:13-21):
Jesus healed the sick and taught the crowds. The disciples wanted Jesus to send the people away because there was no food. Jesus challenged the disciples to feed the crowds as a test of their faith. A little boy shared his small lunch of five barley loaves and two fish to help feed the crowd. Jesus blessed the food and gave glory to God.
Miracles: Jesus healed the sick; Jesus multiplied the food.
Elijah and the Widow (1 Kings 17:1-24):
Elijah told King Ahab that if he did not stop worshipping Baal, there would be a drought (no rain or dew) until the Lord commanded it. God directed Elijah to the starving widow who showed hospitality (kindness). The widow showed she relied and trusted God when she shared her food with Elijah. The letters F.R.O.G. stand for Fully Relying On God.
Miracles: God provided oil and flour until the rains returned; God used Elijah to raise the widow’s son from the dead.
Elijah Opposes the Prophets of Baal (1 Kings 18:1-45):
Elijah confronted King Ahab for worshipping Baal, a false god. Elijah blamed King Ahab for the drought. Elijah challenged the prophets of Baal to a contest to prove that God is the one, true God. Nothing happened when the 450 prophets of Baal called for fire to come burn their offering. Elijah dug a trench, poured four water pots over his offering, and prayed. Elijah was a true prophet of God. When Elijah prayed, God sent fire.
Miracle: God burned up the offering, the altar, the water, and the rocks.
Gideon’s Brave Army (Judges 6: 7-80):
Gideon was called by God to lead his people and overtake the Midianites. God promised to save the people from their enemies with only 300 men.
Gideon followed God’s instructions and went to battle against a much larger enemy army. Gideon and his army carried trumpets of ram’s horns, torches and clay jars. God can use anyone to do His work, no matter what his or her age.
The Lord will give you strength and show you the right way to go.
Miracle: Gideon’s army overcame the Midianites with just 300 men.
The Ten Commandments:
Moses went up on Mount Sinai to meet God. He stayed for 40 days. God gave Moses Ten Commandments to show us the right way to live.
1. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
2. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.
3. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.
4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
5. Honor thy father and thy mother.
6. Thou shalt not kill.
7. Thou shalt not commit adultery.
8. Thou shalt not steal.
9. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.
10. Thou shall not covet thy neighbor’s house.
Memory Verse: Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. - Psalm 119:11
God’s Written Word/Sharing God’s Word:
The Bible is a special Gift from God. The Bible is God’s Word. It helps us to know God. The Bible is divided into two main parts: The Old Testament and the New Testament. There are 39 books in the Old Testament and 27 books in the New Testament. The Bible contains 66 books in all. Jesus went to the synagogue to worship and read God’s Word. He read from the book of Isaiah. Jesus told the people that he was reading about himself, the coming Messiah. God’s word is true and it will last forever.
