Principal Talk

King Community,

Happy Holidays! We are excited to enter this very busy, but fun time of year with your children. Thanksgiving was a most wonderful one with many examples of kindness and gratitude being displayed. Our student council collected over 1,000 lbs of food and over $600 for the Care and Share Harvest of Love event. Our staff also sponsored numerous families with a Thanksgiving meal. These are great opportunities for our students to learn about service, community and generosity.

As shared in previous newsletters, our staff is working hard to implement the Capturing Kids’ Hearts program in an effort to connect with every student in our school. One aspect of CKH is called Good Things. Teachers and staff members ask students throughout the day to share their good things going on in their life. This encourages students (and adults) to focus on the positive aspects of their life. This can also be a great conversation starter at home, “Tell me about a good thing at school today.” The question and response often to lead to conversations which help us build relationships with students.

A friendly remind to please pay careful attention while in the school parking lot. There is much activity going on and being distracted by a cell phone can be dangerous. We also ask that you please watch your speed in and around the neighborhood streets, as well as, use only the entrance into the school parking lot. We very much appreciate your help in keeping our King community safe.

Once again, I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season as we lead in to the New Year! The month of December is a busy one at King Elementary. Please check out the rest of the newsletter for school information including upcoming events (we have a couple of music concerts coming up this month), PTA information (Holiday Shop), and severe weather/school closure procedures.
