Things You Should Know This Week
Hello Baltz Families!
There is no school on Monday Feb. 21st in observance of President's Day.
We are continuing to focus on spreading kindness throughout the school with Kindness Week.
Staff and students will participate in activities to promote kindness. Students can wear colors each day to help us keep kindness in mind.
- Tuesday - Rocking Red To Remind Us to Be Kind!
- Wednesday - Wear Baltz Blue Because Kindness Starts with You!
- Thursday - Wear Yellow and Say, "Yellow" to Someone New!
- Friday - Wear Orange - "Orange" you happy when people are being Kind?
Baltz is participating in a Shoe Drive from now until March 18th. The drive is sponsored by DELLTA (Delaware English Language Learners Teacher Association. As you are spring cleaning, shoes can be delivered to school or sent in with your child. Please send in a bag labeled Shoe Drive.
Here are some details about the Shoe Drive and how it is benefitting English Learners heading to College or Careers.
Here’s some information about the Shoe Drive.
· DELLTA will earn funds based on the total weight of the shoes collected.
· The $ goes to the Amanda Sapp Parisi Awards for graduating ELs going on to college or career programs.
· The collected shoes are sent abroad to micro-enterprise (small business) partners, providing economic opportunities in developing countries.
· These micro-entrepreneurs sell the shoes to feed, clothe, and house their families. One woman in Haiti even earned enough to send her son to law school!!
· In the US alone, 600 million+ pairs of shoes are sent to landfills every year.
· Shoes can take 100 years to decompose and release toxic chemicals while doing so.
Please “Shoe Us the Love”!!!
Some Testing Dates Ahead:
- ACCESS Testing (in Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing )began for English Language Learners on Feb. 3rd and will continue throughout February.
- DeSSA Testing for students in grades 3, 4, 5 begins in May.
