The Pinnacle
Fall 2017
Keller's Corner
Hard as it is to believe, we are over a month into the school year. Norman Howard has been a busy place. On a typical day we are sending a group of students somewhere in the greater Rochester area to get a “hands on” experience that augments their learning. One of my personal highlights from this year was joining our Middle School on a ride up the Erie Canal on the Sam Patch. I have also been impressed how many of our teachers have brought the topic of food and nutrition to the forefront in a variety of ways. It has been an incredibly smooth start to the year and we are grateful for all that has been accomplished.
This Thursday evening (October 5th) we have an incredibly knowledgeable speaker coming to Norman Howard. Andrew Watson is a former teacher who has written books on memory, attention, and the brain. This may sound daunting, but he presents his findings in very simple and practical ways. I will also say, based on conversations and reading his most recent book, that Andrew is incredibly funny. We are glad to be sharing this resource with our parent community and hope that you will join us!

How Can Current Brain Research Help Students Learn?
Join us for this FREE workshop with Andrew Watson!
Learn specific strategies drawn from neuroscience and psychology. By understanding the neural basis of learning, by restructuring study habits, and avoiding cognitive pitfalls and challenges, we can align our study strategies with the brain's most effective learning pathways. The result sounds too good to be true: less time studying that results in more learning! RSVP to Julie at (585) 210-4721 or jmurray@normanhoward.org.
