Reminder Time!

Today, as I was supervising intermediate (grades 4-6) recess, I had to remind about a dozen students that they needed hats and gloves out at recess. Now that it is snowing again, please remind them to wear their snow pants as well. The good news is, the K-3 graders didn't need as many reminders.

Another reminder is we have Parent/Teacher conferences coming up soon, February 5th and 6th. If you haven't received an invitation, I am sure you will receive one soon. On February 4th, we have a collaboration day. This means early release ( agenda at end of news letter.) This means everything is 1.5 hours earlier than on a normal day including, school pick up and bus drop off times. The exception of this is our pre-school program. That program will be on its normal schedule.

A new term or acronym you will be hearing is AMP (Alaska Measures of Progress.) Students in grades 3-10 will be taking this new state-level assessment in April. One of the biggest differences between this assessment and the one it replaces (SBA) is it is on-line. I will insert a link to more information about it later in this newsletter. Students will be practice using the tools of the assessment on January 29th. This practice is a statewide activity to test the capacity of the state system. One benefit of this new assessment system is that it also has practice "content" tests as well that teachers can use as formative assessments. The "testlets" as they are referred to, are content specific and aligned with Alaska State Standards. So they are a teaching tool as much as they are a testing too.

Best Wishes,

Doug Hayman
