December 2016 Updates
Greetings!
I hope that you all had a fantastic Thanksgiving with your family and friends and are planning for rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation over the winter break.
We have added a new member to our team this month. Please join me in welcoming Katie Lawson to our group. Katie is the new media coordinator at Dillard Elementary school.
As a reminder, we will be meeting January 18th from 1pm - 4pm in the BTWLC PD Room. Feel free to add items for discussion to our agenda also.

Computer Science Education Week
December 5th-11th is Computer Science Education Week. How are you celebrating? Are you planning to participate in Hour of Code?
Speak Up America Survey 2016 - Please share with staff and students
The National Speak Up survey is open for input until January 13th
The survey is open to students, educators, parents, and community members. .
Each year the national results are summarized and shared with education and policy leaders in Washington DC and each state to help them create and implement a vision for 21st century learning.
By being part of Speak Up 2016, you are contributing to a bigger discussion worldwide about how to improve education for all students.

Action Research - Preparation for our January 18th meeting
During our meeting on January 18th, we will focus on analyzing your data and preparing your findings report/presentation. Please be sure to bring your data to this meeting.

Digital Literacy
SLMC "works with teachers to...integrate effective strategies for accessing, evaluating, and synthesizing information resources to support teaching and learning." (Standard 4, Element B, Proficient) Thanks to Allison for sharing this article recently, School Librarian Role In War on Fake News. Kathy Parker also shared this recent Stanford study that spotlights the need for digital literacy instruction for our students. How are you teaching your students these skills?
Schoolnet Resources for Lesson Plans
Two NC programs, the Governor’s Teacher Network and Teachers @ Work, provide several standards aligned lesson plans for NC Teachers.
You can access these resources by following this click path ...“Classrooms,” “Instructional Materials,” click “Search,” then on the left hand side, searching for the “Publisher” as GTN or Teachers@Work.
