ADMINISTRATION UPDATE
Dear CCS Friends and Family,
Last night was a spectacular night at CCS! Our PTO hosted our annual Champ/Fun Run, Potluck and Basket Raffle. We didn’t count how many people attended, but we can definitely say that we had a record turnout! It was wonderful to have so many families and community members in attendance running, playing, eating and celebrating together! Proceeds from fundraisers such as the Basket Raffle help us to sponsor many wonderful things at CCS. We would like to extend a special thank-you to Carol Blanshine, Jessica Aube, Amy Janetti and Sarah Ringler. CCS is truly blessed to have the dedication of a hard-working PTO!
Prior to the PTO festivities, our middle-level opened their classrooms to families and visitors to showcase products representing some of their very hard work this year! Fifth-grade classrooms featured engineering projects aligned to a bridge-building challenge and The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind. Sixth graders featured their work from Trout in the Classroom and students’ “What’s My Story?”. Grades 7 and 8 showcased their Personal Interest Projects. The students’ Personal Interest Projects demonstrated curiosity and creativity in presenting how they had grown as a learner.
Earlier in the day, our Kindergarten Team hosted their annual Garden Party, inviting families to celebrate their students’ first year of learning at CCS! Team slideshows and student work that was shared definitely highlighted an amazing year of growth for our youngest learners.
This Tuesday, June 11th is another special end-of-year day at CCS! The line-up of events for Monday is as follows:
● Looking Ahead Day is held between 8:30 - 9:30 in the classrooms. Teachers will host their incoming students and engage in fun “getting to know you” activities. Students return to classrooms and are called down for the Carnation / Awards Ceremony.
● Carnation Ceremony is held from 9:45 to 10:05 in the MPR with grades K-8 present.
● Awards Ceremony is held from 10:15 - 11:00 for students in grades 5-8.
PBIS School-Wide Celebration and Field Day is scheduled for Wednesday, June 12th from 1:30 - 2:45 for all CCS Students. CCS will proudly present the proceeds from their Be the Change Positive Behavior efforts to the Make-A-Wish. We are planning on presenting our contribution to Make-A-Wish CEO James Hathaway and welcoming local media coverage to document the event. During our Celebration and Field Day, students will be able to participate in a variety of fun and games with all CCS teachers and staff members.
We hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
Warm Regards,
Stephanie, Jen and Cassandra

MUSIC NEWS
It’s been a great year in the music department! In addition to regular music classes at school, students have had the opportunity to participate in nineteen different festivals, concerts, workshops, and field trips for band, chorus, jazz band, and music theater over the past 10 months. Mr. Smith and Mrs. Littlefield are very proud of the work students have done and the music we have made together!
We finished out the year strong with two final performances: the CCS Jazz Band played at the Discover Jazz Fest on Church St. and the 6th Grade Chorus sang at the Charlotte Senior Center (with a special treat afterwards). Great job to everyone who participated!

CVSD COMMON READ
** REVISED** 2019/2020 CVSD SCHOOL CALENDARS
SUMMER STUDENT INFORMATION UPDATES GO ELECTRONIC
Starting this summer, the Champlain Valley School District will move to an online platform for some student paperwork. This will include not only the summer student information update sheet and health form, but basic registration forms and other permissions and updates as well.
Previously summer update forms were printed and mailed home for families to review, make updates and corrections, and return to school. This summer we expect to send the summer update forms to families via email, with the ability to complete and submit back to the school electronically. As always, the timely return of the requested information is important so that we have accurate emergency contact and medical information before your student begins in August.
CCS SCHOOL MEAL ACCOUNT INFORMATION
The end of the school year is coming up. Please settle any negative balances on your student meal accounts. Thank you for supporting our school meal program.
Graduating Students: All negative meal acct balances must be paid prior to graduation. Positive meal balances will transferred to CVU. Students leaving the district should request a refund by emailing me: eskypeck@cvsdvt.org by June 1st.
Families using MySchoolBucks.com: Please disable your autopay account by the last day of school, to avoid having an additional payment charged to your account when we close out the school year. You can reactivate your account in August. Any $ in your student account will be carried over to September.
Meal Charging Policy: Students who do not bring a meal from home are allowed to charge an emergency meal. Parents are expected to pay for the meal. Students will not be allowed to charge additional items if they have a negative meal balance.
Free/Reduced Meal Benefits: Free /reduced meal benefits carry over through September 2019. If you wish to keep receiving benefits next year, you will need to fill out a new application in August. The application will be included in your summer parent information packet. If you receive a letter from the State of VT giving you different instructions, please let us know.
CVSD FOOD SERVICE SURVEY
A big thank you to the community members who participated in our Food Service Listening Session in May. If you were not able to attend but would like to share your thoughts on your school's Food Service Program, please take our survey before the end of the school year.
VERMONT DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH LETTER TO FAMILIES
Dear Parent or Guardian,
The United States is seeing the greatest number of people with measles since the disease was declared eliminated from the country in 2000. So far this year, as of June 6, 2019, Vermont has not had any cases of measles, but there have been cases in neighboring states and Quebec. Measles is one of the most contagious of all diseases and it can be disruptive and dangerous.
Measles Outbreaks in the U.S.
The majority of people getting measles are unvaccinated children. Because measles is still common in many parts of the world, unvaccinated travelers continue to bring the disease into the U.S. It can then spread, particularly in communities where groups of people are not vaccinated.
Ensure your child is up to date on their immunizations.
The best way to be protected against measles is with a vaccine that provides protection against three diseases: measles, mumps and rubella (MMR). To make sure your child is protected from measles, the Vermont Department of Health recommends you do the following:
· Make sure your child has had two doses of the MMR vaccine.
· Call your child’s primary care provider to schedule an appointment to get vaccinated if needed. If uninsured, your child may be vaccinated at your District Health Office.
· Share updated immunization information with your child’s school nurse or administrator.
What are the symptoms of measles?
Call your child’s health care provider if your child shows symptoms of measles:
· High fever
· Cough, runny nose and red eyes
· Three to five days after the fever, a rash of tiny, red spots. The rash starts on the face at the hairline and spreads to the rest of the body.
How does measles spread?
Measles spreads through the air when a person infected with the measles virus breathes, coughs or sneezes. Measles is so contagious that an unvaccinated person can get measles just by being in a room where a person with measles has been up to two hours after that person has left the room.
Someone with measles is contagious from four days before the rash appears to four days after the rash appears. Before someone even knows they’re sick, they can spread measles to other people.
Is measles serious?
For some children, measles can lead to diarrhea, ear infection, pneumonia (a serious lung infection), lifelong brain damage, a suppressed immune system, deafness, and in rare cases, death.
Thank you for doing your part to protect the health and wellbeing of the children in our community.
