Whitford Catholic Primary School
Newsletter 31 - 16 October 2019
We pray for our Year 3 students as they prepare to receive the
Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time on Wednesday 23rd October at 7pm.
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
It is such a pleasure to welcome everyone back to school for this last term. For many families, we have certainly hit the ground running with swimming lessons, surf lifesaving, school disco, dance showcase, iPad parent information evening, Sacrament of Penance, excursions, girls night in, cricket carnival, assemblies, Telethon and the Parish 45th Anniversary Feast Day….and that is just the first two weeks!
The excitement of being back is evident in the great way our children have settled into learning. Their enthusiasm is contagious and really makes our work so enjoyable, with every day bringing something new.
New Assistant Priest
We welcome Rev Fr Francis Quoc Tran. Fr Francis begins in the parish this week and we look forward to meeting him in the near future and helping him settle into life here at Our Lady of the Mission Parish and at Whitford Catholic Primary School.
We are all invited! OLM 45th Anniversary
Just a reminder that our parish will be celebrating its 45th Anniversary this Saturday, 19th October from 2.30pm on the school oval, concluding with Mass at 6.00pm in the church. Mass will be concelebrated by Archbishop Timothy Costelloe, with our Year 6 Christian Dance group dancing during mass.
Our school choir will sing in one voice together with the Padbury school choir on the oval during the afternoon. We are all invited to this special parish event and are encouraged to invite family and friends along as well. There will be lots of food and festivities available for all.
Staffing: Term 4
We have welcomed Mrs Julie Danaher back from LSL this term. Julie will continue in her Junior Primary Learning Support role. Mrs Sarah Knox who worked with us last year in Year 5, will be working in the Upper Learning Support area for this term.
Development of a Nature Based Pre-Primary Playground
Thank you to Mrs Pina Pettinicchio for co-ordinating the fabulous new nature-based climbing frame and play equipment in the Pre-Primary playground. The staff and students in this area are pretty impressed with the speed and scope of these works. If you haven’t seen what’s happening down there, feel free to pop in and take a look.
Pre-Primary Classrooms
Over the school holidays, two of the Pre-Primary classrooms were plastered and painted as part of general maintenance. Both renovated rooms look bright, inviting and are vibrant places for learning. A huge thank you to the team of staff who moved everything out and about to ensure the job could be started and finished in the holidays. A top team effort!
Wedding Congratulations
We congratulate our Year 3 teacher, Miss Gabby Gelle who has returned to school as Mrs Gabby Gelle this term after marrying her fiancé Bryce during the school holidays. Many blessings to both Gabby and Bryce!
Art Classes
After school Art Classes commenced yesterday and I hear that the children really enjoyed their first afternoon of art. We look forward to seeing artistic creations from our very own little Picassos in the near future.
Holiday Mini Olympics for Kindy
Many thanks to one of our dads, Joel Patterson for organizing the mini-olympics for Kindy kids in the school holidays. I hear that it was a very successful event and enjoyed by all. Thanks Joel for your commitment and organisation!
On a finishing note, now that we are back at school, I would like to remind everyone about the importance of a good night’s sleep to enhance school performance and positive home and school behaviour. We know that getting a good night’s sleep often comes down to simple routines such as avoiding late-night technology use and keeping a regular sleep schedule. Bed-time reading as part of our routine often signals to the brain that it’s time to sleep. Good luck.
Kindest regards with many blessings

Change of Date - Year 3 (2020) iPad Information Evening - Monday 21 October
Year 3 2020 (Current Year 2) iPad Information Evening will be held on Monday 21 October not Tuesday 22 October due to the Year 6 Girls Night In program.
The information session will commence at 6pm and will be held in the school library. Attending this session is important if you have any queries/concerns or would just like some general information on the program.
We will endeavour to cover the following on the evening:
- Cost: How we will hopefully be able to acquire a school discount on the purchasing of new iPads
- Device Control: How you can use Zulu Desk Parent to keep your child on task at home
- iPad Safety
- Screen Time Issues
- Handwriting: How we have a balance between iPads and writing in the school
In preparation for the evening, I do ask that you fill out the short survey attached to the link. It should take you no more than a couple of minutes. This will help with the planning of the evening.
I look forward to seeing you next week. If you have any queries in regards to the evening please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Volunteer of the Month
Our volunteer of the month goes to Mr D’Adamo’s right hand man, Ian Plummer. Ian has worked tirelessly throughout the year coaching and mentoring students to achieve their personal best. He has spent much of his spare time dedicated to helping our students, this includes; evenings, where he researches new teachings techniques and ways of keeping warm ups interesting and fresh and; weekends and holidays, where he plans and undertakes training open to all students. Ian gets as much pleasure from seeing our top athletes achieve podium results and personal bests as seeing students who less comfortable with sport getting out of their comfort zone, trying something new. He has become an invaluable member of the WCPS community and we have been very lucky to have him.
