Connections
Welcome to Connections - Issue 4 - w/c 3 October 2022
Viewpoint
Our curriculum statement (below) outlines what we are aiming to provide for our students during their time here at college. This underpins our approach to our course planning and to teaching and learning. If you think we are not meeting these elements please let us know. We are really interested in hearing from you if you are an employer or are employed in local industry and feel you could make a contribution to helping shape our curriculum or working with our students to help prepare them for their next steps. Please email me if you would like to talk further (JeanetteH@gcfe.net), thank you.
It is necessary for all students (plus staff, and visitors) to wear their ID when on campus. Although not far into the new term, we are receiving ongoing requests for duplicate ID cards and lanyards from students (or their tutors on their behalf), to replace those which have been lost. Please note that the the College will provide students with one issue of a lanyard free of charge and that if a student loses or misplaces their ID card, it will need to be replaced as soon as possible. All replacements will cost £3.00.
Best wishes.

We are very proud of our Creative student Olivia Roze, who not only won the Sovereign Art Foundation Students Prize Public Vote award in February, but was one of the four students who won an Art For Guernsey Scholarship trip to London.
The Art For Guernsey Scholarship trip to London was written up in the Guernsey Press last week - and it sounded amazing!

ProPortal and reports available to parents/carers
ProPortal is a student record system that allows parents and carers to view live information about their son or daughter, and is the main way we keep you updated on your son/daughter’s academic progress and attendance. It is a very useful tool, and access is available via our website on www.guernseycollege.ac.gg, click on >>College Links from the drop down menus along the top and then >>ProPortal, which will bring you to a log in screen.
Please click HERE to access ProPortal login page and get started. You will need your son/daughter's student reference number (these are printed on a student's ID card). The first picture below shows the sign in screen, with instructions on how to start the process of registering. If new to ProPortal, you will need to click on >>Submit An Account Request; if you have already signed up but need a reminder of your Password, you should click on >>Forgot your password?
We ask you to sign up to ProPortal at the start of term so you can stay up-to-date with your son/daughter’s progress. You will be able to view their
• Lesson Timetable
• Attendance and punctuality
• SMART targets
Once you have had confirmation that your request has been accepted, you can then
log in to your ProPortal account (following the further instructions in the first image below) and view your son/daughter’s lesson timetable and details of their attendance by clicking on the Information drop-down menu at the top right hand side of the screen (see the second image below). Your son or daughter's attendance and punctuality and SMART targets can be accessed by clicking on the student ILP drop-down next to this (see the third image below).
If you have any questions, are having any problems accessing ProPortal or creating an account, require any of your details to be changed, or if you would like to be removed from our systems/records, please email college@gcfe.net

UCAS Applications - update
UCAS has a really useful parent guide, with the option of signing up to newsletters, accessed via this link. Please take some time to look at this information if your son/daughter/ward is in their final year.
Here is the application timeline:

9 Dec 2022: All Progress Tutor References Completed and Form Checked (inc. Quals)
16 Dec 2022 : Final College Deadline for Submission of All Applications to UCAS
Students are supported in planning for their next steps by the Progress Tutor team.
