First Grade NEWS

for the week of October 17, 2016

We are loving this fall weather! Please remember to put your child's name on their jacket.

This week we will work on adjectives and inferencing. We will be reading pumpkin stories. In math we will work on addition and subtractions strategies to 20. In science we will continue working on force and motion and in social studies we will continue learning about community helpers.


This week for Phonics Dance - our hunk and chunk will be "wh" :


who, what, when, where, why, which

and we will review the words ship, shop, wish and shut from last week

Thank you for taking the time to meet with use for parent conferences. We enjoyed visiting with each of you about your student.


Please practice Sight Words and have your student read their books each night!


Next week, October 17th-21st is Homecoming week, dress up days will be:


Monday - Let the Games Begin! Dress in Candy Land colors

Tuesday - Get your Game face on! Wear eye black or buy a spirit tattoo to wear

Wednesday - Stay ahead of the game and wear a hat

Thursday - Let's Get Ready to Rumble. Wear a sports jersey

Friday - Eagle Fight Never Dies - wear your Decatur spirit wear


The following week, October 24th-28th is Red Ribbon Week, those dress up days will be:


Monday - Crazy socks and crazy hair

Tuesday - Pajama Day

Wednesday - Wacky Clothes

Thursday - Decade day- dress from your favorite decade

Friday - Neon day


Please join us in dressing up for these fun days!


Monday October 31st will be Halloween, students may wear school appropriate costumes.

Please make sure they can get in and out of their costume to use the restroom!
