The Monthly Howl
PL Shout Outs at Woodland
Jammin' January!
Woodland had so much going on in January it was hard to narrow it down to just a couple of pictures! This month we focused on helping our students to become 21st Century Learners and upping the rigor in our classrooms. Keep up the great work you are doing every day with the students!
Becoming 21st Century Learners
January's Advisory focused on teaching students to use the 4 C's: communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking. Thanks to all the teachers who sent me pictures of their students engaged in the learning. Check out the video below to see students collaborating during a math activity in Ms. Gulsby's class. Remember that you should continue to use the 4 C's in class every day.
Collaboration
Students in Ms. Bish's class learning to collaborate. They each held one string attached to a rubber band. They had to use the rubber band to pick up and stack cups.
Creativity
Students in Ms. Lindeman's class used box tops and straws to create a marble maze. They worked with a partner to design it and then play with it.
Communication
Students in Ms. Philmon's class working on their drawings. One student drew a picture and then had to describe it to their partner for them to draw the same one. The trick is they had to sit back-to-back.

Taking it Up a Notch!
We started off this semester by looking at DOK levels and how to increase the rigor in the classroom. I have visited a couple of classrooms and conducted lessons with students on what rigor means and how to ask better questions. Check out some of the pictures from our lessons. Let me know if you would like me to come to your class.
Determine the DOK Level
Students were given a variety of classroom activities then they had to determine the DOK level for each one.
Sort the Activities
The students sorted the activities they were given into the four different levels of DOK.
Discuss the Results
After the students put all of their activities on the chart we discussed each one to see if everyone agreed.
