Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 8th February 2019
Buddy comes to visit!
We had a visit from 'Buddy' the speech bubble this week (along with his friends from NSPCC). He shared the message ' Speak Out, Stay Safe' to Years 1 to 6.
If you were unable to attend the online safety meeting for parents and would like the information booklet, please pop in to the school office. Years 5 and 6 will be taking part in workshops next week.
More Reading Stars!
Congratulations to everyone who has achieved their reading star award so far. One of the challenges is to take a photo reading somewhere unusual. These have been hilarious and if you would like to see them, they are on our ' Wall of Fame' in the school library. Please feel free to email your photo to your class teacher if you have no way of printing it out.
Even if your child has not started their challenges, there is still plenty of time and we would like everyone from Reception to Year 6 to gain their star! Year 1 are the current leaders!
The Big Sing Tuesday 12th February
We will be walking up to the Cathedral with our Year 1 and 2 children at 1.30pm, then the performance will be from 2-2.30pm. It is a free event and family/friends are warmly invited to attend. It will be quite informal and more about the opportunity of enjoying singing together with a large group of children, as opposed to a 'polished' performance! Afterwards we will take the children back to school, so they can be collected as normal at 3.10pm.
No School for Children Next Friday
On Friday the staff will be having training in the middle of the day, and parent appointments have been set up from 8-10am and 4-6pm. Children are welcome to accompany parents to appointments but there will not be any school except for Oscar's.
Oscar's
On Friday 15th February, Oscar's will be open 8am to 5.15pm (£20 full day, £15 half day). Places are limited to 30, and we already have 24 children booked in, so please be sure to reserve your spot now!
It will not be possible for us to have a holiday club in the February half term holidays, but we are looking to open for a couple of days in the Easter holiday. This has yet to be finalised, so we will confirm as soon as possible.

Message from the Friends
Funds this year: Last term we raised an amazing £2,500 towards resources for school. Thank you to all parents who have helped, donated, supported and attended our Friends' events. This fantastic total will make a real difference to school! We are using funds to support the Forest School, in which all children will participate this year, and to refresh some computing resources. All the children have benefited from these purchases and activities. We will continue to raise money over the school year but we have been able to offer the school an additional £3,000 towards further projects - watch this space for more news!
Bags2School: Thank you for your donations which raised almost £40.
Family Quiz Night: A brand new event for 2019! We'd like to host a 'Family and Friends Quiz Night'. This will be straight after school on Thursday 4th April 3.30-5.30pm. Teams of up to 8 people (children and adults) can enter, we will provide a light tea for everyone, entry will be £2 per person including food. There will be a raffle and additional refreshments for sale. Children who are booked into Oscar's can join an Oscar's team and take part. More information after the half term break.
Duck Race: Save the date!! Wednesday 22nd May will see our annual duck race on the Skell. Meet at 5pm by Fishergreen bridge.
Summer Fair: Saturday 22nd June will be our summer fair. A fantastic family event open to the whole community: Bar, BBQ and bouncy castle plus many more stalls. Details nearer the time.
That's all for now, but if you have any ideas for future events or you want to help us out, please let us know - email rcpsfriends@gmail.com or send us a facebook message Thank you.
