Davis Bilingual Magnet
February Newsletter
Dear Davis Families,
As we begin the month of February, I wanted to take a moment to share some updates and highlights from our incredible school community. It's been a fantastic start to the year, and we have exciting events and initiatives to look forward to in the coming weeks.
Parent-Teacher Conferences:
We value the partnership between our school and our families. Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on February 8th and 9th to provide an opportunity for you to connect with your child's teachers, discuss academic progress, and address any concerns. Please be on the lookout for communication from your child's teacher regarding scheduling. Student dismissal will be at 11:45am on these days.
Black History Month:
February is Black History Month, a time to honor and celebrate the rich contributions of Black individuals throughout history. In their classrooms, students will learn about the rich and inspiring history of Black Americans as part of our celebration of Black History Month.
Let's come together to appreciate and learn from the extraordinary legacy of Black history. Please take a moment to explore the district's brand new Black History Month Website. The site offers an extensive range of activities and resources. To access the website, please click HERE.
Love of Reading Week:
Exciting news! Love of Reading Week is just around the corner, from February 12 to 16. We're thrilled to announce that we'll have special guest readers on campus to captivate our students with the magic of stories. In addition to the literary festivities, we're hosting a Spirit Week filled with fun activities to celebrate the joy of reading. To add a touch of creativity, each class will participate in a door decorating contest – may the most imaginative doors win! Let's make this week a memorable celebration of the love of reading. We look forward to fostering a love for books and imagination in our students.
Spirit Week Preview:
Get ready for a week full of fun and school spirit! Encourage your child to participate in the themed dress-up days and join the excitement. Let's make this week unforgettable with enthusiasm and unity. Together, we'll create lasting memories!
- Monday: "Team up with a good book" - Wear your favorite sports team clothes.
- Tuesday: "Be a superhero, READ!" - Wear your favorite superhero shirt.
- Wednesday: "Hats off to reading" - Show off your favorite hat.
- Thursday: "Get in the Role" - Dress as a beloved book character.
- Friday: "Curl up and read" - Wear your comfiest pajamas.
As always, we appreciate your continued support and involvement in our school community. Together, we can make February a month filled with learning, understanding, and unity.
Wishing you a fantastic February!
Warm regards,
Marisela Campillo
Principal

Improving Reading and Math at Home
We are continuously working to ensure our students make academic growth in math and reading . You can help us by encouraging your student to read nightly and/or work on one of TUSD's educational platforms. Research shows that doing just one extra session a day can have a tremendous impact on student learning. All students at Davis have access to wonderful resources such as Learning A-Z, and ST Math to support their continued growth in Reading and Math.
To access the various platforms, students just log into their Clever accounts and select the icons. Please contact your student's teacher if they have any trouble.

Davis Bilingual Magnet welcomes families who want to volunteer on campus. To volunteer, please fill out the Volunteer Online Application.
Free and Reduced Lunch
Davis Bilingual Magnet receives funding based on the number of qualifying lunch applications submitted. The money received is used to fund a full-time certified position. Regardless of whether or not you choose to eat school lunch, please submit an application. All qualifying applications directly impact the funding our school receives. Once an application is submitted, you are able add money to your child's lunch account. Please fill out the Free and Reduced Lunch Application.
Tax Credit Donation
Now through April 15th, 2024, you can take advantage of the Arizona Public School Tax Credit to pay the income tax you owe directly to Davis Bilingual Magnet. In the state of Arizona, you get your tax credit contribution back subject to the limits of your tax liability.
What should I mark when I make my donation online?
We are especially grateful for donations marked “Undesignated,” as that allows us to put your donation towards a specialist position on our campus (P.E., Garden, Art, etc). Thank you for supporting us as we raise funds to keep these important positions.
What if I already made a payment for Extended Day?
Many of you made a payment for Extended Day. Kindly note that you may be able to take advantage of the federal Child and Dependent Care Credit, as Extended Day supports parents who pay for childcare so that they may work outside of the home. Please consult your tax professional for more details. This may allow you to make an additional contribution to Davis (in addition to Extended Day) and claim the Arizona tax credit, for up to $400, per the information above.
