In the NEWS....
Did you "catch" the article in the RI Parent Magazine about the Lincoln & Cumberland Prevention Coalitions?
It was a great article, focusing on the importance of stopping kids from using marijuana and how it begins with parents. In addition to some great resources on how to talk with your children about marijuana, the article also highlights what the latest trends are with the drug.

IN THE COMMUNITY...
The Lincoln Prevention was proud to participate in the Parent Information Night on October 8th at the Lincoln High School. The evening's discussion was "Mountain or a Molehill; Talking to Teens about Sensitive Topics." A variety of topics were discussed, ranging from LGBT community, Peer pressure, E-cigarettes and more. It was a great opportunity to talk with Lincoln residents about the Lincoln Prevention Coalition!
IN THE SCHOOLS...
A.T.I. (Above the Influence)
Cumberland/Lincoln Prevention Coalition is thrilled to begin the "ATI" (Above the Influence) program at the McCourt Middle School in Cumberland & Lincoln High School.
ATI “Above the Influence” is a place where teens can learn how to stand up to negative pressures and influences. Youth develop a media campaign to educate and address the negative pressures that they may be facing.. The purpose is to create awareness of the impact of drug abuse and negative pressures on young people. The more aware you are of the types of influence around you, the better prepared you will be to face them. Learn more about the program & check out their website HERE!
Halloween Safety Tips!
Expecting trick-or-treaters or party guests?
Follow these tips to help make the festivities fun and safe for everyone:
- Provide healthier treats for trick-or-treaters such as low-calorie treats and drinks. For party guests, offer a variety of fruits, vegetables, and cheeses.
- Use party games and trick-or-treat time as an opportunity for kids to get their daily dose of 60 minutes of physical activity.
- Be sure walking areas and stairs are well-lit and free of obstacles that could result in falls.
- Keep candle-lit jack o'lanterns and luminaries away from doorsteps, walkways, landings, and curtains. Place them on sturdy tables, keep them out of the reach of pets and small children, and never leave them unattended.
- Remind drivers to watch out for trick-or-treaters and to drive safely.

WHAT ARE MARIJUANA CONCENTRATES?
Also known as: 710 (the word “OIL” flipped and spelled backwards), wax, ear wax, honey oil, budder, butane is hash oil, butane honey oil (BHO), shatter, dabs (dabbing), black glass, and errl.
What is it?
A marijuana concentrate is a highly potent THC- (Tetrahydrocannabinol) concentrated mass that looks like honey or butter. For that reason, it's often called “honey oil” or “budder” on the street.
How potent is this form of marijuana?
Marijuana concentrates contain extraordinarily high THC levels ranging from 80 percent or more. This form of marijuana can be up to four times stronger in THC content than high grade or top shelf marijuana, which normally measures around 15-20 percent THC levels.
How is it abused?
One form of abuse occurs orally by infusing marijuana concentrates in various food or drink products. Smoking remains the most popular form of ingestion by use of water or oil pipes.
Many abusers of marijuana concentrates also prefer using an e-cigarette/vaporizer because it is smokeless, odorless and easy to hide. The user takes a “dab” of the concentrate, then heats the substance using the e-cigarette/vaporizer, producing vapors that ensure an instant high. A single hit can be equivalent to 20 marijuana joints.
Using an e-cigarette/vaporizer to ingest marijuana concentrates is commonly referred to as “dabbing” or “vaping.”
What are the effects of using marijuana concentrates?
Being a highly concentrated form of marijuana, the effects upon the user may be more psychologically and physically intense than plant marijuana use.
To date, long term effects of marijuana concentrate use are not yet fully known; but, we do know the effects of plant marijuana use. These effects include paranoia, anxiety, panic attacks, and hallucinations.
