Message From The Principal
Westbrook Families,
Welcome back! I hope everyone enjoyed Spring Break! It was great to see so many smiling faces and true excitement from our students to be back at Westbrook. As I stopped in classrooms Monday morning it was great to see students catching up with their peers and sharing their Spring Break experiences. This time of the year the students are displaying a greater level of independence and peer interactions. Spring is here!
As with any break in the school year, classroom teachers took the time to welcome students back while also reinforcing and reteaching our expectations around the building. A big thanks to our school psychologist, Hayley Gargula, and school social workers, Melinda Prawer, as they held sessions with each classroom to review our recess expectations with all students. The main focus was to reteach what it means and looks like to Be Safe/Be Kind/Be Your Best at recess. Students were highly engaged and we are thankful for this dedicated time to reteach expectations.
I hope you enjoy your weekend!
Patrick
Class Placement Feedback
Later this spring, the Westbrook staff and I will engage in our work to create the groups of children that will comprise our 2023-24 homeroom classes. The class placement process is one that takes considerable time and collaboration among our school team, and will not be truly finalized until August.
In creating classes, we strive to take into account all that we have already learned regarding the social, emotional, academic and creative aspects of every child. Our goal is to form balanced, heterogeneous classes in which each child can succeed. If you have additional information that you feel is important for us to consider when placing your child in a class for next school year, please share it with me in writing (or email: phoeft@glenview34.org) no later than Friday, April 28th. If your child will not be returning to Westbrook for the 2023-2024 school year because your family is moving or he/she will be enrolling in a private school, please let the front office know as soon as possible via email to mzenzola@glenview34.org and dcrask@glenview34.org.
Your thoughts about your child’s peer relationships and previous school experiences are certainly valued. Consistent with past practice at Westbrook School, however, please know that we are unable to honor requests for specific teachers. If you have any questions about the class placement process, please feel free to reach out!
Change in Preschool AM Dismissal
Hello District 34 Preschool Community,
Due to the increase in enrollment and quantity of bus and car riders, we are implementing a new pick up traffic pattern for the AM program. This new plan will begin on Monday, April 10.
Please see the map below. The new plan will include a designated bus parking section of the right hand curb lane directly in front of the doors.
We kindly ask that cars do not line up in this designated area between two cones. For those who arrive early, there will be space for two or three cars in front of the designated space along the curb. We also ask that parents stay seated in their cars to allow for increased traffic flow. A staff member will guide and help the student into their car.
Transitions can often be a challenging time for many of our students. Our objective in keeping the buses closer to the door is to maintain student safety. We appreciate your patience and flexibility as we implement this new plan, starting on Monday April 10.
Sincerely,
D34 Preschool Team

Please join us for a Kindergarten Musical Performance!
Our kindergarten students will be getting together to perform songs that represent all of the wonderful things they have been learning in music.
- Friday, May 5, 9:30am: Savage, Licato, Greiner
- Friday, May 5, 1:30pm: Krueger, Stanley, Barron
We want to share a few details in advance:
- All performances will be held in the front gym at Westbrook School.
- Parking in our lot in a designated space may be challenging. We encourage you to carpool, and park in the empty lot across the street if needed.
- Students may wear formal clothing for this performance.
- Each performance will last about 30 minutes.
- Each student will be able to have two guests attend their scheduled performance.
The safety and security of all of our students and staff at Westbrook are our priority, and we ask for your help by following District 34 safety and security protocols that require each guest to have their photo ID processed through our security system before being admitted into Westbrook.
To avoid lines in the front office and the greatest enjoyment of the show, we highly recommend that each guest who will attend the show stop by the main office or call the main office at 847-657-2491 the week before the show to pre check-in with their photo ID. The best times to call the main office are during 9:00am-11:00am and 1:00pm-3:00pm daily.
Thank you for your help!
