November 18th Principal's Update

We hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving break!

Dear Lancaster High School Eagle Families

As we reflect on what we are thankful for, Lancaster High School would like to say, THANK YOU, to our families. We are truly in this together and our students are more successful when there is a school-home partnership. We all have the same goal, to produce a student who leaves our walls the absolute best version of themselves.

We hope both our students and staff have a wonderful holiday break next week as we have no school from Nov. 21-Nov. 25. School resumes on Nov. 28. Recharge, enjoy those whom you love, and let us come back ready to charge through until the end of the semester.

Speaking of Monday, November 28th, on the returning Monday from 5:30-6:30 we will be hosting a parent family forum put on by our district office. We are looking for input on our four district goals as we build our future Local Control and Accountibltiy Plan. More info will be provided next week, along with a link where you may attend virtually.

Good luck to our Eagle Football Team and our Marching Band as each play in their respective championships this weekend. Go Eagles!

Sincerely,

Your Principal, Zach Mercier

CIF FOOTBALL Semi Final Playoff Game!!! Friday November 18th @7pm at Arroyo High School (El Monte)

Our Eagles have advanced to the CIF Semi-Finals for football! We look to keep the winning streak alive as we visit Arroyo High School... We are not very good guests... we run and throw in other's houses... we turn on a lot of lights... we invite other people over and make lots of noise... and when we leave, it ends the party of our hosts...

For our football parents or those on the rooter bus, here is the ticket information to get your tickets for Friday's CIF Semi-Final football game at Arroyo High School (in El Monte).

Lancaster Marching Band Competes in Championships

It's official, the Lancaster Marching Band has made Championships.

We perform at 3:28pm on Saturday November 19th at Downey High School. Show starts at 1pm.

We all know that Covid and lockdowns were hard on education, but band courses were hit especially hard. We often were not allowed to play together, then could only play outdoors, or could eventually play indoors but only with special masks and all manner of things that held us back. Last year and this year have very much been rebuilding years for us and we are extremely happy we've managed to continue the band's tradition of excellence as we work to rebuild. This is due to the HARD WORK by each and every member of our amazing band, under the direction of Norman Schmidtberger.

We appreciate all the well wishes and shoutouts throughout the season and will go out, once more, to bring renown to the name Lancaster High School.

School Programs

Eagle Vision

Every Tuesday, our ASB produces its "EagleVision" broadcast. This is a great place to find out what is happening across our campus. These videos will be featured on our weekly update after being shown to our students each Tuesday.
Eagle Vision 12 | 11/14-11/18

Artists of the Week

Painting students have been working hard learning watercolor techniques. They had a chance to go outside and paint. This inspired watercolor andscape paintings. Ceramic students were also learning about organic and geometric forms. They created organic shaped slab boxes with lids. Check out the great student work!

Tutoring

VIRTUAL *LIVE* Tutoring (Virtual Tutoring with a Live Person)

Did you know that your student has LIVE 24 HOUR FREE tutoring available in your student's PowerSchool? Our district has partnered with Princeton Review to provide every student with this amazing service. Your student can be connected with a tutor in any subject any time of the day, for FREE. These are not videos, they are live, vetted, tutors. Think of Uber, but for tutoring! The tutors will even edit papers for your student with less than a 24 hour turn-a-round period.

The easiest way to access this free, live, virtual tutoring, is to have your student log into google with their school account, log into Power School, look on the left side of the screen and find the live tutor button, and follow the easy to follow directions from there. If you need assistance, CLICK HERE or the button below for a tutorial.

In-Person 0-Period Live Tutoring on Campus

Live, in-person, tutoring began on our campus has started. We have daily tutoring from 7:45am - 8:40am in our library.

Students must check in at the door for tutoring. Students must be working quietly or receiving tutoring to be in the library before school.

We will host all tutoring in the library during these hours with adult tutors to assist your students. Use this time for quiet work time or to get specific help from our tutors.

TUTOR TIP: Have your work out and ready. Have specific questions for tutors. Get help when you are stuck!

How does my child get lunch?

Lunch is free for all and can be found at the multiple lunch sites on campus.

Food Services https://avfood.org/ is pleased to announce that beginning this school year, your student will receive meals at no charge as part of their school day thanks to the USDA's Covid relief plan. This is an automatic benefit for all enrolled students to students throughout California. It is important that our students are nourished in order for them to learn and not have the pressure associate with program eligibility.

This change means students are not required to complete a meal application or provide any specific documentation, however, we are still required to gather family income and demographic information to ensure that your student benefits from additional state and federal programs that are available.

The California Department of Education uses this confidential information to identify qualifications for additional funding that provides for many programs and opportunities for our students. Based on the information provided, eligible students may receive fee waivers for the PSAT, SAT, free college applications, or much more. The AVUHSD is eligible for additional supplemental and targeted funding for our student programs and services based on a variety of factors, including this data.

Lancaster parents, we need your help! Please, regardless of qualifications, or social-economic standing, please help us provide the best opportunities that we can for our students by taking the few minutes it takes to fill out this form.
