The Hour of Code is Coming to KP

Computers are everywhere, but fewer schools teach computer science than 10 years ago. Good news is, we’re on our way to change this. If you heard about the Hour of Code last year, you might know it made history. In one week, 15 million students tried computer science, and next week KP will join this global event. On Thursday Dec 11th from 3:00-4:00pm students will have the opportunity to join this fun online event.

If the 60 second teaser below has your attention, go deeper with the videos below.

The Hour of Code - WORLDWIDE

Giving to those in need!

On behalf of the KP Staff, I want to thank those of you who provide scholarship support by giving extra or covering the entire cost (sometimes more) of a field trip for another student. As you know, this season of giving affords us with the opportunity to not only give to our loved ones, but to also provide for those in need. KP is continuing to give back this season in the following ways.

  • Teams are Adopting 9 Families through WH Human and Leisure Services
  • A student is making sure children in DCF foster care have a happy holiday by selling bracelets and holding a silent auction for art pieces (thank you to our creative staff members) --Available at the 8th grade concert

If you'd like to support these efforts or give to our KP CARES fund to provide support for our needy families during this time and throughout the year please send a donation to the main office.

Unified Theater Production

Please join us for this year's Unified Theater production! Our theme this year is Smile! You're On Camera. Please join us on December 18th at 3:30pm, or on December 19th at 7:00pm in the auditorium of King Philip Middle School. Through student led leadership, U.T. has been working since October to bring you a show filled with T.V. memories, and fun. Unified Theater aims to create a welcoming, inclusive environment that combines every person's unique abilities into a production of short skits. We hope, that in this season of hustle and bustle, that you will find yourself at one of our productions (Dec 18 or 19th). Tickets are free, but donations are greatly appreciated and go back into our program for future events. Hope to see you there!

Math Resource

At Monday's PTO meeting, our math teachers presented on the changes to the math curriculum due to the implementation of the Common Core math.

We are including this handout with helpful information regarding:

  • Why math is different in the Common Core
  • Key shifts called for by the Common Core
  • Helpful resources to support your child's success

If you have additional questions, please contact your child's math teacher.
