In January we will host a RICAS Parent Night to discuss our results, as well as our plans for helping our students get back on track.
Please remember to inform the school nurse if you travel over the holiday break and be sure to follow all Covid Policies.

Attendance Matters!
All families want what’s best for their children, but many don’t realize that pulling a child out of school when it’s not absolutely necessary can lead to academic problems that will affect them for years to come. As the holidays approach, many families are tempted to extend their holiday vacations by a day or two, or even longer. Others prefer to utilize alternate weeks for their family vacations than the scheduled school vacation weeks. Oftentimes the assumption is that missing the information that is being taught when they’re away doesn’t really matter. Nothing could be further from the truth, and although we completely understand that the cost of a vacation taken during school vacation weeks can be prohibitive (we are parents too), it’s most important to consider the costs to your children’s education if they miss too much school. Missing school equals missed learning opportunities. It also creates other issues for children such as stress and anxiety when they have missed days of school, when they have extra work to make up on top of the current assignments they’re receiving once they’ve returned to school, and when they feel like they just can’t catch up from what they’ve missed because direct instruction and classroom interaction are critical pieces in daily instruction. Attendance matters every day, even before a holiday. This is as true in kindergarten as it is in high school. This holiday season, give your children the gift of opportunities for learning and the gift of an uninterrupted education.

Boston Tea Party
“Students in the Class of 2026 ran a simulation of the Boston Tea Party on the Friday before Thanksgiving. They chanted, "Rally men, bring out your axes! Tell King George we'll pay no taxes!" This was done while holding sticks to simulate battle axes, and marching towards "Boston Harbor" (a kiddie pool filled with water). Once students arrived at "Boston Harbor," they threw real bags of tea into the water while yelling a final improvised remark and then running away.”

16 Highlander High School Students Attend Career Fair!
16 Highlander High School Students Attend Career Fair!
Last night 16 students, accompanied by Mr. Robinson Adames our new guidance counselor, attended a Career Fair at Mt. Hope High School in Bristol. Highlander students were invited to attend the fair that was designed by Mt. Hope's DECA students and included professionals from finance, healthcare, small businesses, marketing and communications, law, and more. DECA is a national program that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs.
Highlander students knocked it out of the park, as usual! They were engaged and professional and they were a huge hit with the panelists who reported that they want to get more involved with our students! We are thankful for our growing partnership with Mt. Hope High School and look forward to more great events in the future.
