As Teacher Contract Negotiations Continue

Hello Proviso parents and students,

Proviso District 209 students and staff will return to the classroom on Tuesday, February 22 as planned following Monday’s President’s Day school holiday, and negotiations will continue with the Proviso Teachers Union, which represents the District’s approximately 280 educators.

While the union had previously announced its intent to strike beginning on Friday, February 18, it later decided to postpone the walkout following the District’s most recent proposal, which included a further increase of its most recent salary offer. We continue to await the union’s response to this most recent offer.

We do not know how long this postponement will last and are hopeful that the union’s decision to postpone their planned strike means that we are moving closer toward resolution.

Our next negotiating session is currently scheduled for Wednesday, February 23. An additional session is planned for Wednesday, March 9.

The District remains committed to good faith negotiations to reach a fair contract agreement and avoid a strike, which would only further burden our families and students following almost two years of learning loss due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.

Thank you,

Mr. Rodney Alexander

President, Board of Education
