Hughes Family Weekly Newsletter

Principal's Message
Our Owls have been working hard to showcase their talents to others. On Saturday, our Girl's Track and Field team attended their first practice meet of the season and came in second overall and our student council members represented Hughes at the Middle School - School Choice Fair at Browning High School. Our Boy's Basketball team continues to have a strong showing on the court and our Advanced Band and Orchestra had the opportunity to play for and learn from professionals at Disneyland. Our Owls are impressive in and out of the classroom and we are very proud of them!
8th grade families: the High School Choice Application will be available on ParentVUE starting February 15. If you need help completing the application, please reach out to the school.

If you have any of the following, please have your student take drop them off in the Main Office:
- Bottoms: dark blue or blue jeans or black bottoms only (no holes, frays, or rips)
- Outerwear: black, blue, white or gray sweatshirts or jackets with logos or prints smaller than a fist

Note: Leggings, joggers and sweatpants are not uniform and will not be accepted.

Students Leaving Early (Early Outs)
When you know you are picking up your student early, please avoid the student lunch time and PE class. We are unable to call for students once they are dismissed to lunch and cannot allow adults to walk on campus. During PE classes, there is not always an available adult to let the students in to the locker room to obtain their belongings. Additionally, you are welcome to notify the office about the early out ahead of time and we can let the PE teacher and student know to keep their items with them during that time. Thank you for your help and understanding.

Hughes Guidelines for Success
Hughes - A Green Ribbon School
Reusable Water Bottles: We encourage all students to bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated and reduce our plastic waste.
Clean and Green: As a Green School, our students should not litter on or around campus. Please make sure that all items are thrown away and that we also pick up trash that we see when walking or sitting by it. When we ignore trash on the ground, we are saying that we are OK with trash on the ground, and that's not the Hughes way!
Walk, Bike, Carpool: To minimize the amount of CO2 we add to our environment as well as noise pollution from traffic, we encourage all our students to walk, bike, or carpool to school, when possible.
The next PTA General Meeting will be held via zoom on Tuesday, February 21 at 6:00 pm. The meeting topics will include a jog-a-thon update, a live participation drawing and discussion of year-end activities. We hope you can join us!
