The Cooper Comet Parent Newsletter
October 18-22, 2021
Daily Office Hours
8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
We are noticing a rise in parents not wearing masks at Kindergarten Arrival/Dismissal and those parents who choose to walk up at dismissal at the Valet and First Grade gates. All adults coming to campus with students MUST wear masks even outdoors. Thank you for demonstrating to our students that we all support one another.
EVERYONE ENTERING THE SCHOOL GROUNDS MUST WEAR A MASK-Indoors and Outdoors.
(Mask requirements are posted and will be updated with CDPH guidance. )
Note From Your Administrators
Our teachers greatly appreciate your support. Thank you for taking time to read their communications and look over your child's work. One significant way you can help your children grow academically is to read, read, read! Our amazing librarian, Mrs. Arnett, has curated a vast collection of books our Comets can choose from. Each class visits the library once per week and many of our classroom have large collections as well.
Please read on for many fun things coming our way in the next month!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Chizauskie and Mrs. Pinto
We're working with a number of community organizations to offer a series of after-school enrichment classes for our students starting in November. Families will be able to sign their child up for athletics, dance, theatre, and more! Classes will be 45-minutes right after school and more information will be coming home in the next few weeks. There will be no cost to families to participate. There are limited spaces.
Students already participating in the After-school Program with the TGIF will receive the same enrichment activities with TGIF and should not sign up for these programs separately.

Get Your Lavender On!
Lavender oil has many healing properties and can be used as a natural remedy to reduce anxiety and other nervous conditions. There are many ways to incorporate lavender into your calm tool kit:
Add essential lavender oil to your bath water for a calming bath. Use water infused with lavender leaves to soothe painful joints and muscles.
Fall asleep quicker when you add a few drops to a tissue and place under your pillow.
Use lavender in an oil diffuser to help with insomnia. The sweet, woody smell of the lavender oil helps you to fall asleep and stay asleep.
For headaches, apply lavender oil to a cotton ball or your fingertips and massage slowly into your temples. The smell will relax you as the oil eases your headache.
Lavender is used in aromatherapy massage as a muscle relaxant. Massage the oil into the skin and unknot the muscles of the back and reduce spasms.
Lavender can be used as an expectorant. It breaks up the mucus from nasal and chest congestion that accompanies a cold.
Inhale lavender oil to help with pain management, especially after a workout, a therapy session, or surgery.
Red Ribbon Week - October 25 - 29, 2021
Red Ribbon Week began in 1985. In memory of DEA Agent Enrique Camarena, parents and youth across the U.S. began wearing red ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness of the dangerous consequences of drugs. This year marks the Red Ribbon campaign’s 36th year, and it has touched millions of people around the world.
Red Ribbon Week Theme: Our Dreams, Our Future
At Cooper, We celebrate being Drug Free and MAKING GOOD CHOICES through a week of Spirit Days:
Monday 10/25 - Follow Your Dreams, Don’t Do Drugs (Pajama day)
Tuesday 10/26 - My Future’s Bright, No Drugs in Sight (Wear college/career shirts & sunglasses)
Wednesday 10/27 - Proud to Be Drug Free (Wear red)
Thursday 10/28 - Team Up Against Drugs (Wear your favorite team jersey)
Friday 10/29 - Drugs Are Scary (Wear your Halloween costume or School Colors)
Each student choosing to wear a costume during school on Friday will need to submit the attached Halloween contract and follow all guidelines. If a costume is worn to school outside of these guidelines, parents will be contacted to bring a change of clothes. During Trunk or Treat that evening, we welcome students to add the accessories and face make up for school appropriate costumes. Teachers have distributed the contracts in class for return.

Student Drop Off/Pick Up -Valet Lane On Christine Drive
Please help us by following these simple procedures every day!
Patience is key. School dismisses at 2:20 and 2:25. This means students arrive to the Valet Zone at 2:25 and 2:30 at the earliest. If you want to know a secret to easier pick up---arrive 5-10 minutes after your student has been dismissed. They will be waiting for you and traffic will move smoothly. Our students are watching our behavior and learning!
*Consider Valet lane like an unloading/loading zone at the airport. You MAY NOT leave your vehicle unattended or arrive 10 minutes early and park. This zone is for active loading/unloading ONLY.
*Please pull forward all the way to end of the zone. We are asking all our Comets to wait in a supervised area and will not release them to get in the car until you are in the safe zone.
*Double parking is unsafe and we will not release students to a double parked car.
*We are noticing this week that quite a few cars are making u-turns in front of Cooper. That is a double yellow line and an illegal move. Fortunately, if you proceed down Christine Drive you can make right or left turns in the neighborhood that are legal, safe, and a good example for our students.
*Please do not park in any crosswalk. This prevents students/adults from crossing safely.
*Please use crosswalks to retrieve your children from school. It is worth the extra minutes to model appropriate choices so that our students will independently make the same safe choices.
*Remember, the best kept secret. Arrive to school 10 minutes after your student dismissal bell rings in grades 2-6 for the smoothest pick up after school.
The greatest challenge to school pick up is the families that arrive prior to the bell ringing and clog up the valet zone.
