RRMS Library Happenings
April 2015
Still a Happening Place!
- Classes!
Students in Mrs. Larsen's health classes learned about different career clusters and created SMART goals for their personal and academic lives.
Many classes utilized the library's computers for test prep, such as learning the tools they will be able to use on next month's SOLs.
Finally, students in Mrs. Mathurin's classes continued their study of poetry by learning about the different online resources to study and create poetry. They also made use of several poetry books in the library and analyzed poems using the techniques they studied in class. It was a great way to end their poetry unit!
- Poetry Month!
Many English teachers checked out a class set of poetry books to enhance their students' study of poetry and apply techniques in a real-world context. Also, those books were offered as a resource to students preparing for poetry projects as well as the upcoming Poetry Slam in May.
The library supplied daily announcements to celebrate April as National Poetry Month. Students learned fun facts about poetry as well as ways to access poetry online, in the library, and through social media.
- Experimental Design Displays!
The library hosted 8th grade Experimental Design Displays again this year. Organized by the 8th grade Science teachers, students conducted their own experiments and created tri-fold boards to display their results. It was a great few days for students in their science classes to wander through and explore different science projects! See below for a photo.
- New Program!
Starting after spring break, we trained six new "Library Helpers." These eighth grade students received training on tasks such as shelving fiction and nonfiction, as well as how to choose books for displays. They really make a difference during busy activity periods!
