Author Nancy Noyes Silcox Visit MH Library during Black History Month

Author, Nancy Noyes Silcox shared her newly released biography entitled: "Samuel Wilbert Tucker: The Story of a Civil Rights Trailblazer and the 1939 Alexandria Library Sit-In.
Approximately, 80 students from English and World Civilization classes attended the author presentation during the lunch block.

Future MH Titan Authors!!

Twelve aspiring writers joined author Nancy Noyes Silcox for lunch and conversation on February 12.
The author shared the process of writing non-fiction books. Ms. Silcox encouraged the students to observe little things and to write something in their journals everyday.

All students in attendance received an autographed copy of the author's book.

Black History Month "WHO AM I " Trivia & Poster Contest

MH library held a WHO AM I? Black History Trivia contest. Students used library databases and books to find the answers to African-American history -"famous firsts".

Students also entered the library's black history poster contest to illustrate their view on Black History Month.

Teen Tech Week 2014! Learning with Old Technolgy & New Tech teachers!!

March 10-15 was Teen Tech Week! The library's "Blast from the Past" display was set up in front of the library. Students experimented with old tech equipment items such as polaroid cameras, typewriters, record players, filmstrips/microfilm and rotary phones.

MH Titan Tech Teachers

Students from MH Titan Service Club, AVID and SGA work together in mini training session after-school.
Students will become the library's tech teachers in several intergenerational events during the school year.

Library databases used for transfer tasks & fun projects

Students used the library databases during the third quarter to complete transfer tasks and end of quarter projects for English, World Civ. STEM , & Health & Human Growth.

MH Poetry Cafe

In celebration of National Poetry Month, the library was transformed into a “poetry cafe” on Friday, April 11th. Over 100 students participated during their lunch block. This was an intergenerational event in which several senior citizens were invited to participate in the poetry café activities with the students. Special guests included Youth Adult Librarian – Ginny Rawls and Spoken Word Poet - Robin Bruce.

The poetry café was such a successful event with students that it will be incorporated in library program events each year.


The library processed approximately $12,000 in for the year in library books in print and electronic format.

MH library received $4,979.00 from the dream fund grant for the purchase digital equipment for the library's intergenerational programs and events.

MH Titan Service Club & library staff will go on a field Trip to St. Martin Senior Citizens for an intergenerational event. 9th grade titans will share tips with the senior members on using ipads , kindles for reading, playing games and using digital content.
