Immersion Education – Teaching academic content in another language

Hello Fronteras Families!

Thank you to everyone who braved the snowy weather on Tuesday and attended Student-Led conferences! We love seeing you in our school and appreciate all of your support!

The kiddos came through the front doors Thursday morning with wonderful stories of how they spent Wednesday’s surprise Snow Day! Activities ranged from building snowmen, to sledding, to thrift store shopping, to being total couch potatoes! Sounded like a day well spent!

Next Thursday is our 3rd – 8th grade English Spelling Bee. The competition will be held in our gym and start at 8:30am. Please join us if you can!

Looking ahead to March:

· March 4th is our 3rd – 8th grade Spanish Spelling Bee at 8:30am in our gym. We hope you can join us to support all of the participants!

· March 2nd-6th, I will be soaking up Vitamin D and practicing my Spanish in beautiful Cabo San Lucas. I will miss seeing everyone that week; but am wishing our families a wonderful spring break!

· No school for students Monday, March 16th!

· Friday, March 20th, our Q3 Awards Assembly & Student Showcase will be held in our gym at 8:30am and 1:00pm

Have a fantastic weekend!

Most Sincerely,

Mrs. Hutchins

Spring: a lovely reminder of how beautiful change can truly be.

Annual Mandated Climate and Culture Surveys

The parent climate and culture surveys are ready for deployment. The survey window will close on Friday, March 6th, 2020. This climate survey is a primary mechanism to monitor our work to create a positive, welcoming, and equitable school. Results help us identify areas of strengths, as well as areas that require improvement. All surveys can be completed in less than 10 minutes. At the beginning of each survey, participants will be prompted to select their school. This will allow site specific data to be disaggregated.

NOTE:The hyperlink for the Parent survey below may not work on all devices. If the link below does not work, please go to the main school district website at www.matsuk12.us and click on Parent Quick Links. Parent Survey is located at the bottom left of the Parent Quick Link's screen.

APC News!

Hello fellow parents!

Have you ever wondered what the Academic Policy Committee does at Fronteras?

Well, let me tell you! :)

The APC has had the pleasure to award money to middle school students to help fund their immersion trip to Puerto Rico by way of the raffle tickets sold and other fundraisers that you awesome parents participate in and support.

We have also been instrumental in starting and continuing the Student Ambassador program at Fronteras in where 2 middle school students are selected (after an application and interview process) and represent our school in the community and at Fronteras to help others understand what it truly means to be a Phoenix and the benefits of language immersion.

If you are the parent of a middle school student and think your student would be an excellent Student Ambassador, please contact me and we can give them the details on how to apply.

Also, APC Board elections are approaching and we need you amazing parents to join us!

If you can commit to an hour and a half every other month during school months for a 2 year period, please fill out an application at the front desk.

We would love to have parents on our Board who want to continue to see Fronteras grow in a positive direction and who can bring their energy and enthusiasm to our meetings.

We hope to see you there!

Jen Manion, APC Board Chair
