- Literacy Night
This Week...
Hi All,
Math Night was amazing! We had such a great turn out and I watched out families leave happy. Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time. It was organized and fun for all! Hoping to do the same for Literacy Night.
Who is interested in joining Mika for the Wizards Basketball Game? It is going to be a great night and the kids will love to see you and your skills!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Robin
Resources:
Here is one of my favorite resources from when I taught...Flocabulary : https://www.flocabulary.com/
Since then, they have grown in popularity and is no longer free, but offers a free trial.
It offers engaging songs for almost every topic being covered and is a tricky way to get kids EXCITED about what they are learning. I used it as a starter for whatever topic I was introducing. It served as a great hook.
Here is a link for 4th grade, knowing they are discussing the branches of government: https://www.flocabulary.com/3-branches-of-government/
Interested in coding? Here is a tutorial on station rotation for coding. Here is a link for a free download: http://www.digitaldreamlabs.com/educators-request-more-information/

BWLS Teacher Assessment Survey
As a district, we believe that the purpose of testing is to drive our instruction. Unfortunately, the amount of testing being mandated by the State of Ohio has increased. This has caused us to want to do an assessment inventory. In this process we will examine all district-level given tests and make decisions about which tests are high quality and necessary for our students to take and which tests can be modified or eliminated. A committee of teachers and administrators will complete the assessment inventory over the next several months and make decisions about which tests to give as a district moving forward.
This survey is an important part of our assessment inventory. Your responses will help shape recommendations for the future of the district’s testing program. Please know that your responses to this survey are confidential. Thank you for taking the time to give your input!
Showcase Week
You’ve requested- we’ve answered! After having numerous visitors from other districts come and check out our classrooms, it’s time Big Walnut teachers get to tour the district. From February 1 to February 5, we will have our first District Showcase. Each school will have a specific day in which floating subs will be provided so that teachers can visit other classrooms to gain ideas, insight, and inspiration. BWE's IS MONDAY, FEBRUARY 1st.
During this week, teachers who have graciously volunteered will open their classroom to peers from around the district. This week is devoted to connecting educators across the district and allowing to collaboration and professional learning.

Shout out: This week I want to shout out to Mrs. Zirillo, Miss Sliva and Mrs. Griffis. Thank you for being so open and learning about new writing resources.
Resource of the Week: Google Drawing
I have given plenty of resources for writing using technology. One resource that we all have access to that sometimes is forgotten about is Google Drawings. There are so many ways to incorporate Google Drawings into your classroom. Below I list a few, however I know there are many more ways and I would love to hear your ideas. Don’t forget BWE students all have a Google Drive account, so anything they create can be shared with you. Please check out the graphic below, it gives you 10 simple ideas on how to incorporate Google Drawings into your classroom.
