Message from your Principal
As we enter our last three weeks of online learning and school for this year, we are keeping our foot on the gas and continuing with a focus on engagement with our students. I have been able to talk with many students this week and from their perspective, online learning has become easier to manage but they all said the same thing- they would much rather be at school.
I could not agree with them more! I would much rather be at school with your kids than see them and talk with them through Zoom. But, this is where we are at this time and we are going to make the best of it. I will continue to reach out and connect with our kids and find the joy in at least seeing and talking with them.
Grades do Count! We are at the half-way mark for this 6 weeks and students need all 6 grades to earn a Satisfactory (passing mark) for the 6 weeks. Please make sure that you reach out to your child's teachers if you need any help with assignments. See this newsletter for how to view grades in Skyward.
I know that some of our students have personal items that were left in school and we will be sending out procedures and timelines for retrieval that will not occur until the first week of June, which is our last week of school.
At this time, we are focusing our energy on Finishing Strong over the next three weeks. Please let us know if you need anything- we are here to help!
Thank you for sending us the Best of the Best!

RJH VIRTUAL RUN/WALK/BIKE - From RJH Nurse Turner
Hi,
Did you know that May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month? Taking physical breaks throughout the day can help to reduce stress and anxiety, boost the immune system and improve sleep. Sound like something we could all use a little of? In celebration and support of physical activity, I would like to invite and encourage everyone to participate in our Virtual Run/Walk/Bike on Friday May 22nd. The goal is to get outside for 30 minutes of exercise of your choice. You can join us together/apart at 11:00 or at a time that is convenient for you. Remember to practice social distancing and stay safe. Take pictures showing how you promote physical activity and health. Photos can be uploaded through an assignment portal on canvas. Let's show our family, friends and community how we practice health and wellness at RJH.

Virtual Fun Run/Walk/Bike- May 22nd!
Hi Everyone,
Last year Reading JH participated in the LCISD School Health and Wellness Program. This program is sponsored by SHAC (School Health Advisory Committee) and focuses on promoting physical, mental and emotional health of both the individual and the community in the school setting. Reading JH was the only LCISD junior high that participated in this program during the 2018-19 inaugural year and we were awarded the School Health and Wellness Banner for our efforts. You may have seen it hanging on the wall outside my office. The events of the past few months have limited some of our activities, however we are on track to submit our award application again this year. With that in mind, I am excited to announce that we are hosting a virtual fun run/walk/bike on May 22nd. Exact time and details to be shared over the next few weeks. So save the date and let's show our family, friends and neighbors how the Reading JH family practices health and wellness. Stay safe, stay well and Happy Mothers Day.

Internet Access
Internet Access
The Texas Education Agency has shared information on free and/or reduced cost internet access for families in response to COVID-19. Lamar CISD is providing this information as a community resource and does not endorse any corporate provider.
In response to COVID-19, all four Texas Cable Association members have pledged to not cut off broadband or telephone service to any customers, even those unable to pay their bills; waive late fees incurred because of their economic circumstances related to the coronavirus pandemic; and open their Wi-Fi hotspots to all. Find more information here.
Cable providers have also made the following commitments:
- Altice USA, which provides Suddenlink services
For households with K-12 and/or college students who may be displaced due to school closures and who do not currently have home internet access, Altice USA is offering its Altice Advantage 30 Mbps broadband solution free for 60 days to new customer households within their footprint. Find more information here. - Charter Communications, which provides Spectrum services
Charter will offer free Spectrum broadband and Wi-Fi access for 60 days to households with K-12 and/or college students who do not already have a Spectrum broadband subscription and at any service level up to 100 Mbps. Installation fees will also be waived for new student households. Charter will continue to offer Spectrum Internet Assist, the high-speed broadband program to eligible low-income households. Find more information here. - Comcast, which provides Xfinity services
Comcast is pausing its data plans for 60 days, giving all customers unlimited data for no additional charge. Additionally, for all new and existing Internet Essentials customers, the speed of the program’s internet service was increased to 25 Mbps downstream and 3 Mbps upstream. That increase will go into effect for no additional fee and it will become the new base speed for the program going forward. Find more information here.
Comcast is also offering free Xfinity WiFi to families, a network of hotspots that allows you to connect to the internet wherever you are. Find more information here. - Sparklight, formerly Cable One
