2nd Grade Happenings
November 9, 2017
Thank you Veteran's!!!! We appreciate your service to our great country!
This four day week has been a very busy one. I also can't believe that it is already November. The end of the first trimester is only a month away - where has the time gone?!
Thanksgiving Food Basket Collection
Thank you to Avery for bringing in our classes' first donation for the food drive!!!
2nd Grade is asked to bring in Pie Ingredients. This could include anything from canned pumpkin, evaporated milk and pie crust mix. Anything is appreciated, even cake mix.
The school's goal is to make baskets for 40 families.
The drive runs until November 17th.
Also, if you would like to donate a turkey, you can donate $20. Middle school students will be at the entrance before and after school taking these donations.
The school is also looking for families to pick up a basket on November 17th and deliver it on either the 18th or 19th. Please let the Mrs. Rafferty ( krafferty@stmikesolympia.org ) know if you can deliver a basket.
This is a great way to be a disciple of Jesus Christ by giving generously from your heart.
Welcome Victoria!
On Monday we will welcome a new classmate - Victoria. The class, especially the girls, are excited to welcome a new friend to our class!
Prayer Testing - week of November 27
At conferences, I passed out the prayers that the 2nd Graders need to know this Trimester. I will test each student individually the week after Thanksgiving. They will need to know all the Kindergarten prayers, the First Grade prayers, and the Act of Contrition.
Social Studies
This week we started talking about different communities that we belong to. Ask your 2nd Grader if they can name some of them. (The 2nd Grade definition of a community is "a place were we live or work")
We are also talking about maps and how they can show different communities. I told them that we did not always have Google Maps. I mentioned that when I was growing up (and most of their parents/grandparents) that if we didn't know where we were going or if we were taking a road trip, the passenger had a map that they unfolded and read from and told the driver where to go. This is great discussion point to have with your kids.
