Recoleta is one of the most exclusive areas where both history and charm get toghether, in its wide cultural circuit, with its museums, gallerys, parks and gardens.
Recoleta´s architecture is signed by the neoclassical French influence, wich had begun on the second half of the XIX century, when the aristocratic families from BS As who lived in the southern areas decided to relocate in this lands in a attempt to escape from a flu epidemia. Therefore, since 1871 several luxurius residences were built in this area, giving its landscape an European resemblance.
In order to appreciate its refined profile one mas walk around Alvear av, where you will find some preciuous buildings such as : the Duhau Palace, Vatican residence, the Jockey Club and the everlasting Hotel Alvear. All around Recoleta you can find petit hotels of this same style, which offer an interesting contrast against the modern constructions that had started being built in the 60´s.
As well, Recoleta offers an endless number of open areas , where you can contemplate works of art, or simply wander around enjoying the shade of ancients trees. Some it most popular parks are: Plaza francia,located in front of Recoleta cementery,the park by the Law School, and Floralis garden.
