Principal's Message

Happy Friday Bobcat Families!

It was yet another great week at A.C. Moore! We were scheduled to have Fall Picture Make-Up Day on October 7th. This did not occur and will instead take place on October 28th.

Thank you to all families for continuing to encourage your students to practice safe habits while at school. All students and staff are required to have a mask on during the school day. Please continue to remind students to wear masks properly, snug over their noses and mouth. They should also use hand sanitizer and/or wash their hands multiple times throughout the day.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! I look forward to seeing your students next week.

~Principal Aldridge~

On Wednesday, October 6th students participated in International Walk to School Day with a Poster Parade around the A.C. Moore campus, followed by a dance break with the Bobcat. Walk to School day is a global event that involves communities from more than 40 countries walking and biking to school on the same day. South Carolina Commission for Minority Affairs (SCCMA) Highlights Culture and Traditions of Hispanic Heritage

Source:

In recognition of National Hispanic Heritage Month, the South Carolina Commission for Minority Affairs (SCCMA) will celebrate Hispanic and Latino culture and history through its Celebra La Herencia Hispana social media campaign.

“Hispanic Heritage Month is a great opportunity for us to honor the contributions of Hispanics and Latinos and their impact on society,” said Dr. Delores Dacosta, Executive Director for the SC Commission for Minority Affairs. “It’s important that we recognize these heritage months so that everyone has the opportunity to learn about their rich history.”

The campaign, which was organized by the agency’s Hispanic/Latino Affairs Division, will feature recipes, historical figures, languages, and music from Afro Latino and Indigenous communities. Messages will be posted to the agency’s Facebook and Instagram (@sccfma) pages through October 15.

For more information, contact the SC Commission for Minority Affairs at 803-333-9621.

Ceviche Peruano

Ceviche Peruano is a citrus-infused raw seafood dish popularized in Peru but found in many coastal areas of Latin America. The appetizer or main course consists of super fresh fish marinated in fresh lime juice and served with thinly sliced red onion and sweet potato. The normal process of cooking food by heating involves denaturing, which refers to the changing of the structure of the proteins in the food. Another way of denaturing a protein is to apply citric acid. Citrus juice acid essentially denatures raw fish or any raw seafood.

The Charrua--First Nations of what is now Uruguay

Big picture

The Charrua were among a handful of First Nations who inhabited the territory that is now Uruguay when the Spanish arrived in the early 1500s. The colonial settlement came relatively late here, compared with the rest of the Americas and the historical record is limited. Some accounts say there were about 10,000 Charrua when the Spanish came, but their numbers fell fast after exposure to new diseases, as the Portuguese and then Brazilians successively claimed the region.
