Nazareth Catholic Community
March 15, 2020 - 3rd Sunday of Lent
Our 7:00PM Mass THIS Sunday will be live streamed from Linehan Chapel!
Greetings Everyone,
As our campus, country and world continues to grapple with the COVID-19 or coronavirus, there is a lot of disappointment, fear, and uncertainty around us and within us. During these difficult and stressful times we can turn to our Catholic tradition to help us find grounding, perspective and hope. Over the next few weeks we will be sending out information about online opportunities for connection and reflection. Be on the look out!
For this Sunday, I am pleased to write that we WILL be celebrating Mass this Sunday at 7:00PM in Linehan Chapel. At this time we can only welcome current students who live on or off campus to attend in person. For those of you who are unable to attend, you can participate in our Mass via a live web stream at:

While we may not be able to gather in the same physical space, our faith reminds us of the universal spiritual communion that we share, uniting us with one another and God in this time of need. During this season of Lent, let us also look outward and not lose sight of those who are lacking proper health care and whose lives are threatened due to poverty, prejudice and violence both locally and throughout the world.
If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to email me. I will be sending out a form soon to sign up for one-on-one Zoom appointments if you would like to check in. Meanwhile, please be good to yourself and know we are all in this together!
Peace,
~ Jamie
"In a world of noise, confusion and conflict it is necessary that there be places of silence, inner discipline and peace. In such places love can blossom." ~ Thomas Merton
Starting this Sunday, we will institute the following precautionary measures at Mass:
- Holding of hands during the Lord’s Prayer will not take place for the remainder of the semester.
- For the sign of peace, a bow or wave will replace the shaking of hands.
- The Blessed Sacrament will not be offered in wine form via the cup.
- Communion hosts will only be offered in the hands and not on the tongue.
- Only the priest and myself will distribute communion. We will use hand sanitizer before and after doing so.
Prayer for a Pandemic
May we who are merely inconvenienced
Remember those whose lives are at stake.
May we who have no risk factors
Remember those most vulnerable.
May we who have the luxury of working from home
Remember those who must choose between preserving their health or making their rent.
May we who have the flexibility to care for our children when their schools close
Remember those who have no options.
May we who have to cancel our trips
Remember those that have no place to go.
May we who are losing our margin money in the tumult of the economic market
Remember those who have no margin at all.
May we who settle in for a quarantine at home
Remember those who have no home.
During this time when we cannot physically wrap our arms around each other,
Let us yet find ways to be the loving embrace of kindness to our neighbors.
Amen.
