Independent Learning with Alistair Smith for Secondary Schools
“The guru of acceleration” (Times Educational Supplement)
Following the very positive feedback from the CHTA conference, Octavo have invited Alistair Smith to return to work with Croydon schools in the Summer Term. Suitable for Headteachers/Principals and Senior Leadership teams, these conferences will bring an understanding of the ‘science’ of learning to the ‘art’ of teaching.

The recent government announcement that all schools must become academies by 2022 means that it is vital that schools are informed about the conversion process. Octavo is proud to offer independent advice to school leaders from Stephen Smith an experienced, independent, project manager, to give you an overview of the process of converting which will allow you to keep your focus on the school improvement process.
Academy Conversion - What Governors Need to Know
16 May | 7pm-9pm
This course will give governors a greater understanding of the process of becoming an academy, the decisions you will need to make and the actions you will need to manage.
Safer Recruitment
23 June | 9am-4pm
There is a statutory requirement for one person on every recruitment panel for school staff to have completed safer recruitment training. Our day long Safer Recruitment Course is the nationally recognised Safer Recruitment Consortium training and is delivered by accredited trainers.
This course will:
- Identify the key features of staff recruitment that help deter or prevent the appointment of unsuitable people
- Consider polices and practice that minimise opportunities for abuse or ensure its prompt reporting
- Help participants begin to review their policies and practice in recruitment with a view to creating a safer culture
This course will be repeated on 14th October 2016

Termly network meeting for Computing leads, providing updates, opportunities for sharing effective practice and new and innovative approaches to using ICT across the curriculum.
Primary SENCO briefing Network Meeting - Summer Term 15/16
29 June | 2pm -5pm
This briefing provides an opportunity to update SENCOs on national and local policy and initiatives to support improving outcomes for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
Primary English Network Meeting - Summer Term 15/16
30 June | 1.30pm-4.30pm
This meeting will update English subject on current local and national initiatives. This afternoon is also valuable time for networking, supporting and sharing good practice across the borough.

Login to the Octavo portal, navigate to 'Training', search your course title and book your place. Any member of school staff with a login can book a place (or book for another member of staff) which will then require authorisation from a member of staff with finance permissions; usually your Headteacher, School Business Manager or Finance Officer. Alternatively email us with any queries and we'll be happy to assist you!
