Please enter your first Student of the Month selection on the spreadsheet on the office counter by Tuesday, October 10. The student you select should be a role model for your class in following our UNITY expectations and putting forth good effort in class.
Students will have their names announced on the morning announcements next Friday, will receive a certificate to take home to their family, and will have their name and photo displayed in the office lobby. Thank you for encouraging and recognizing positive examples in our school!
Makerspace Update from Becca Hester
- Dana K and I have coordinated with two other teachers to begin with Writer’s Makerspace. We are hoping to connect with a third teacher in a week or two.
- I created, printed out and laminated a few challenge cards. Dana and I decided to categorize the challenge cards by Engage, Explore and Extend. There are three accordion style folders stapled to the Makerspace bulletin board, labeled with one of the Es described above.
- I printed out handling directions for Dash and stapled them near the robot desk.
- I stopped into Jackie’s room and we discussed creating Makerspace introductory lesson videos that we could put in a Makerspace Google Classroom. I would like to get started on one for the Makey Makey and one for Dash. This should be helpful for those teachers who want to get started, but don’t know how.

NPFH Project
The Dot Project is coming next! While the plot of this book revolves around art class, the bigger theme is about "making your mark." Students will be reading The Dot book with their classes during the week of October 9-13 and then follow up in art class October 16-20 as a springboard into discussion about how we can make our mark in the world, particularly as it relates to race, ethnicity, or disability category. Students will be completing a project in art class that coincides with this topic. To conclude the week, there will be a NPFH assembly on Friday, October 20, at 2:30pm which will focus on "Making Our Mark." There will be a skit centered around how to make our mark in the way we treat people with different abilities. There will also be a video that incorporates GES parents, students, and staff in sharing how we can make our mark in this world to make it a better place. Our world certainly need lots of that these days! The video will include quotes, words of wisdom, and references to famous individuals who have made their mark for equality, such as Rosa Parks and Jackie Robinson. Here is the link to The Dot: https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=youtube+the+dot&view=detail&mid=C18627D599FFF3543CBCC18627D599FFF3543CBC&FORM=VIRE
Please find time to watch the short video and discuss with students how they can make their mark on the world prior to your students' art class on October 16-20.
