Arco Iris race!
Dear parents,
It is time again to prepare for the Arco Iris race! The race is on Sunday, April 24. As a brief reminder, the Arco Iris race raises money for the UNOP Hospital here in Guatemala that provides free cancer treatment to children. Colegio Interamericano has been supporting this cause for seven years now and has been the top school for donations every year! We are so blessed to have such a supportive community. Students will sell tickets for the race Next Friday, April 15th, is our last day of collecting money! If someone does not want to buy a ticket, they can always make a donation to the cause. Every little bit helps! We prefer cash, but checks will be accepted. All checks must have a phone number on it to be accepted. Thank you so much for all of your continued support!
April 18th-April 22nd is RAINBOW WEEK!
Students who have sold 2 or more tickets can participate in Rainbow Week! Students can wear a specific color of the rainbow. Here is the following schedule:
- Monday is red/orange day!
- Tuesday is yellow day!
- Wednesday is green day!
- Thursday is blue and purple day!
- Friday is rainbow clothes day!

Also, students will identify and define parallel and perpendicular lines. Chapter 17 test will be on Wednesday, April 13th, 2016. We will then start start Chapter 18-Identifying polygons. Students will identify open and closed figures and classify polygons.
This week in Literacy!
This week we will begin with Theme 14 Week 1- Every Vote Counts. The comprehension strategy for this week is Create Images-Create images in your mind as you read. We will also review Monitor Understanding. For grammar, students will review adverbs, such as very and beautifully, and suffixes, such as -ful, -able, -less. The vocabulary for this week includes encourage, protest, speech, civic, and crowd.
Since MAP testing will begin April 25th, every Monday students will review a comprehension strategy. The strategies include Reading the Questions First, Evaluating the Questions, Defining Words through Context Clues, and Helpful Tips such as "Always look back at the passage," and "Read all answer choices".
*RAZ-KIDS!
Please make sure your child is reading each night, listening to the stories, and taking the quizzes. Reading for 20 minutes each night is one of the best ways for your child to become a better reader. Third Grade is tracking the number of books read in order for the class to earn incentives, such as a popcorn party! Thank you for your help with this!
