Making Learner-Driven Instruction Simple
If you would like to find simple ways to take data and use it to plan for the students in your room, this is the session for you! Are you having trouble determining which data to bring to PLC data talks? Or does it feel like it's too much work using data to make decisions for instruction? Come to this session to help make this process more seamless.
Please respond here if you will attend.

TANGRAMS
PLC
1. Commitment to Learning for All Students
- What do we want each student to learn?
- How will we know when each student has learned it?
- How will we respond when a student experiences difficulty in learning?
- How will we respond when a student has learned it?
Unpacking standards
Timely. The school quickly identifies students who need additional time and support.
- Based on intervention rather than remediation. Students are provided with help as soon as they experience difficulty rather than relying on summer school, retention, and remedial courses.
- Directive. Instead of inviting students to seek additional help, the systematic plan requires students to devote extra time and receive additional assistance until they have mastered the necessary concepts.
- Gathering evidence of current levels of student learning
- Developing strategies and ideas to build on strengths and address weaknesses in that learning
2. A Culture of Collaboration
Job-embedded learning as part of teachers’ routine work practices
Identify collective goals, develop strategies to achieve those goals, gather
relevant data, and learn from one another. Unlike a work group, they are characterized by common goals and interdependent efforts to achieve those goals.
3. Focus on Results
Teachers gather common data and use the data to identify improvement goals and to monitor progress toward goals.
Everyone participates in an ongoing cycle of systematic gathering and analysis of data to identify discrepancies between actual and desired results, goal setting to reduce the discrepancies, developing strategies to achieve the goals, and tracking improvement indicators.
