CX Debaters Argue Case in Austin
March 10, 2014
While most students stretched out and vacationed for spring break, two students suited up in Austin and debated at the UIL State CX Debate Tournament. Skye Anzaldua and Pawandeep Singh volunteered the first two official days of spring break to debate at the largest debate tournament in the state of Texas at the University of Texas campus.
After chewing a few of their customary Starbursts, Anzaldua and Singh challenged four other 1A teams in hopes of reaching the coveted second day of competition. After a full day of debating the merits of this year's resolution that "The United States federal government should substantially increase its economic engagement toward Cuba, Mexico or Venezuela," our CX team went 2-2. In other words, Anzaldua and Singh ranked somewhere in the middle of the pack or just one win from making it to the elimination brackets.
"I am proud of this team. We have come a long way," remarked Mr. Neff. "This was the first year for my students to compete and my first year to coach this event. The learning curve for this event is steep, and we were just beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I look forward to seeing what these students can do in the future."
