Scarborough High School
February 3, 2023
Dear Students, Families, and Staff,
Semester II has begun and it seems like winter is settling in. Tomorrow is going to be extremely cold, so I hope everyone will be safe and warm. I remember hearing on the news that meteorologically speaking we are past the midpoint of winter, so that is a positive (unless you want to be skiing as long as possible!). Add/drop is being finalized and checked off the list. The Civil Rights Club has been installing a wonderful display in the Main Lobby for Black History month. Thanks to this club for sharing your work with us!

Alateen
Following February break, SHS will be starting up an Alateen group at SHS. This will occur during the school day, but students will not miss classes to be a part of this group. Alateen is a fellowship of young Al-Anon members, usually teenagers, whose lives have been affected by someone else’s substance use. The purpose of Alateen is for young people to come together to:
Share experience, strength, and hope with each other
Discuss their difficulties
Learn effective ways to cope with their problems
Encourage one another
Help each other understand the principles of the Al-Anon program.
In order to be an Alateen group, there must be two Alateen Group Sponsors at each meeting who meet their area's Alateen requirements and are currently certified to be of service to Alateen through the Alateen process. Students interested in this group should go to Student Services to find out more about where and when these meetings will take place.
For Students: Upcoming Panorama Surveys
On Wednesday, February, SHS students will participate in our Winter Panorama Survey during AEAST. A link to the survey will be sent out to you that morning and your teacher will share the access code with you.
Your answers are completely confidential, meaning your teachers will not know it was you. Only your school counselors and school leaders will be able to see your responses. Your voice is important, so thank you for sharing your thoughts. The survey should take about 15-20 minutes to complete.
Note: As all students will be taking this survey, there will be no tagging during AEAST that day.
We hope that everyone enjoys the month of February and enjoys the winter weather and activities you like during this season. Enjoy your break!
Be safe and be well!
