A message from mr. Lucita
We are excited to have more students participating in the Masterclasses this fall as they are preparing for the TMEA District, Region, Area, and All-State auditions. As our students improve as individual musicians, so does our overall band program. I would also like to encourage all of our band students to enroll in private lessons. There is nothing better than getting that individual attention on your specific musical development from a professional musician. See Mrs. Mendez for a private lesson form. Enrollment time is now so the lesson teachers can build the studio schedules. I can't emphasize enough the importance and impact private lessons have.
Let's take a quick look ahead for this week. Everyone should have their electronic device on Monday morning and we hope the students took some time this weekend to review the Ultimate Drill Book app, affectionately known as UDB. This is something new for us this year; every student will have all of their data and coordinates for marching band, plus a ton more information, available at their fingertips. No more paper copies to keep track of, plus you can also import your music into the app as well. We will create a folder on the district Google Drive and upload all parts of the show music so students can access it digitally for the app. Again, make sure you are familiar with the app and how everything works prior to the downbeat Monday morning. If you do not have a digital device, please see a director. We will help find a solution and ensure your success.
Some exciting things happening this week. Wednesday we are honored to have the Mandarin's Drum & Bugle Corps visit us at Johnson High School. They will arrive early Wednesday morning and will be rehearsing at Johnson as they prepare for the Drum Corps International (DCI) show in Round Rock Wednesday night. DCI is like professional marching band! Musicians and guard audition from around the nation to participate in these corps and compete against each other in locations around the nation throughout the summer. We are extremely excited that our students have the opportunity to be a part of this activity and watch this incredible group rehearse in Jaguar Stadium that day. Getting to see a rehearsal of that caliber and witness the dedication, focus, and commitment will absolutely have a positive impact upon our student and staff's approach to rehearsals this fall. We are also excited that we are able to take our Jaguar Band to the DCI show in Round Rock at Kelly Reeves Stadium that evening.
This week we have the Jaguar Jamboree at Johnson High School on Saturday. There are tons of festivities, opportunities to pick up your Jag Swag, and an introduction of our 2021 Jaguar Band, Rosettes, Cheer, and Football Team. All Jaguar Band members should be at the Johnson Band Hall ready to go at 10 a.m. Wear your "Property of Johnson Jaguar Band" shirt. Any shorts and athletic shoes are acceptable for this event. We will enter the gym for the pep rally portion starting at 10:15 a.m. Once we are finished we will dismiss for the barbecue and for everyone to head home to start a wonderful weekend.
Lastly, this week starts a few of our extended days and will also be the launch of the 2021 Jaguar Band Olympics! Our SLTs have been working hard to develop these band Olympic games for you, and we can't wait to see which section takes the gold!
There are so many great things happening with our Jaguar Band, and the future is so exciting! Let's continue the excitement and have an incredible week 2. It's a great day to be a Jaguar!

Game Day Meal Plan
The deadline to purchase the Game Day Meal Plan is August 15. The Game Day meal plan is intended for marching students and is optional but HIGHLY recommended. It is extremely difficult to bring your child meals after school on game days. In addition, students are not allowed to leave campus on football game days to get food and are not permitted to visit the concession stand or have food delivered by friends or family during football games. Students are to remain with the band during the entirety of the football game.
Sponsorship is a key part of the Johnson Jaguar Band’s success. Because the band receives limited funding from the district, we rely on donations from generous sponsors to maintain the excellence of our program and help our students compete at their highest level against top programs in the country. Funds donated by sponsors are used to pay for a variety of expenses that the band incurs on a yearly basis. Some of these costs include music & drill design, technicians and instructors, the maintenance of our instruments & band trailer, contest fees, uniform upkeep, and so much more! We offer many different levels of sponsorship and a variety of benefits. Please consider donating to the JHS Band and help to support a program that encourages and develops students in our community!
