COACH GIBBS INTRODUCTION
June is right around the corner and I am ready to get this CHAPTER started. The COVID 19 pandemic won't allow us to train and play games like we normally would in June, but this program and its coaches will not let our program momentum be stopped. Corona does not have to mean that we can't be connected as a team, a family, and as a program. NOT HAPPENING ON MY WATCH!! The coaches have come up with a workout.
The Decatur Girls Hoops Program over the past few years has shown nothing but FIGHT. Last season's FIGHT lead us to (2) SECTIONAL VICTORIES and a close loss to a pretty good Ben Davis team. The prior season FIGHT lead to 16 wins and an appearance in the City Tournament Final 4. Let's keep it GOING!!

What Maddie Has Been Doing
2020 has been a crazy year for all of us. This pandemic that seems to halt our lives has not improved many people’s situations. We each need to do our part in staying safe and abiding by the new rules and regulations that are being enforced in American society. In doing so, I have spent a long amount of time at home, bored. I believe that these times reveal our character inside. Determination and perseverance can be shown by athletes still running and practicing everyday instead of watching Netflix. It can be shown through athletes who remember their teammates and memories from the previous years and practice for one another. It can be shown through athletes who do their part even when coaches are not there to push them. That is what makes a team. It’s not just a group of individuals playing the same sport, but rather a family that will be motivated because of each other. This is what I hope for the future program of Decatur Central girl’s basketball - a family.
Maddie on the Hawk Family
A family that can laugh together when Coach Gibbs trips over my foot in practice and wipes out. A family that pushes each other even when separated. A family that will do their part because if they don’t, it means letting everyone else down. One of my favorite quotes is from a soccer player by the name of Mia Hamm: “Somewhere behind the athlete you've become and the hours of practice and coaches who have pushed you is the little girl who fell in love with the game and never looked back...play for her.” This is the mentality I hope to share with my fellow teammates this season. I believe that will be a major key in our future success as Lady Hawks.
