Mrs. Greene's 3rd Grade
October 18, 2019
End of Quarter 1
Today marked the last day of the first quarter of 3rd grade. I have been assessing your child on many different skills over the last several weeks. You will see the results of my assessments on October 25 when your child receives his/her first report card.
This week we have been learning about BEGINNING WITH THE END IN MIND. To help students understand how important this skill is, we created Vision Boards. I encouraged the students to think about their likes, wishes, and dreams, for the future. Their future might mean at the end of 3rd Grade or it might mean thinking about themselves as adults. Whatever the case, they really put some logical thought into their boards. I will laminate them and put them in hallway before sending them home.
We took a reading comprehension test today (Friday, October 17). I will grade them and the students will add the data to their Google Sheets on Monday. Look for the test in the Rocket Folder on Monday.
That's all I have for now...
Enjoy your weekend! Go COLTS!!

A few student highlights from our week:
- Gabe got braces!
- Aahan has been working so hard on xtramath! So proud of the extra time he is spending at home to get better at math facts!
- Brock finished a book one day. I heard him make this comment about his book to a friend, "Pure Gold!!"
- Melina has such a positive attitude about EVERYTHING we do in Room 9. No matter what task she is asked to do, she does it with a smile on her face and a willingness to help collectively!
- Lucy, Melina, Phoebe, and Taylor are members of the New Student Mentor Leadership Club. They are taking their job very seriously! During recess and lunch, they are seeking out the new kids to welcome them and make sure they are adjusting well. Melina's comment after recess one day... "Being a leader is hard!"

Writing: Personal Narratives
We have written the first drafts of our personal narratives. We continue to edit/revise as we learn new skills. During Writer's Workshop, Mrs. Greene and Mrs. Tauber work with individual or small groups of students on specific writing skills. It's exciting to see how much the students have grown their writing skills already!
Each student took a writing assessment today. It was a prompt in which the students were given 30 minutes to write and respond to. After I look at it and create strategy group lessons, I will send them home.
