SCHOOL NEWS AND VIEWS
January 10, 2020
This week's update:
We had a great first week back at school! For the most part it seems as though the students were very happy to be back at school and we were happy to see them!
January is a busy month. In fact, in looking at our calendar as well as the church's calendar and Mr. Harden's calendar, we realized that as much as we wanted to, we could not find open evenings to schedule the Christmas programs. So, we will not be having evening Christmas programs. Each class will be performing their songs at an assembly that we will hold the week of January 21st during the day, and of course parents are invited to attend if desired. If your child's class required special costumes and they have not been opened, we will be returning them and refunding your payment via a credit to your account. If the items have been opened and used, we will not be able to return them but I do not think this has happened in most cases. Please give us some time to process all of this. We greatly apologize for this and I cannot recall a time in my 26 years at Holy Cross that we have not had Christmas programs, but somethings circumstances occur and we just have to deal with them.
Please note that the 4th-8th grade spelling bee date has been changed to Friday, January 24th in the calendar items listed below.
There is a youth night coming up on Friday, January 24th for middle school students. Any student who attends MUST notify Mr. Zoch in advance. Students may not just show up at the event without notification in advance. We need to make sure that we have enough chaperones and have enough food and if kids just show up, that will be a problem. Parents are also responsible for providing on time pick up at the conclusion of the event.
We will be starting our second room of MAP testing next Monday. Each class has their own individual schedule which your homeroom teacher should be sharing with you. Your part as a parent is to instill in your children the following:
1. The test is important. They need to do their best.
2. They need to take their time. There is no prize for finishing quickly. In fact, the students who take time tend to get much higher scores.
3. MAP scores are taken into considering when decisions are make about promotion and retention and summer school, just as the FSA is in the public school system. They are not the only criteria but they are part of the equation.
4. Make sure your kids have enough sleep the night before. I am very surprised when I hear and see that some students are up very late at night. This is counterproductive to be active learners in school.
Have a great weekend,
Mrs. Mackey

Registration for 2020-2021 School year
Registration will begin for new families on Monday, March 2nd.
Every child must be re-registered each year. This is the only way that we can confirm your intentions to enroll your child with us next year.
All registration is done online and when you have completed it, you then need to come to the business office and sign your agreement.
Current parents have 2 weeks to register before we allow new parents to register. Once registration is open to the public, space is allotted on a first come basis. So, please plan ahead and do not delay.
There is a $100 discount on registration fees for those that register during early registration.
More information will follow but I am sharing this now just so you can get prepared.
