Week Six The New Normal
St. Jude Weekly Update for May 1, 2020
Comments from Mrs. Hibler
We are all frustrated and overwhelmed, the new normal is no fun! The students want to be back in the classroom; parents want their students to go to school, teachers miss their students and want to be back in the school. Students are overwhelmed by distance learning; they miss their friends, their teachers, and their daily routine. I am a mother, parent, former teacher, and principal, trust me, I understand all of these frustrations completely. We are all struggling with our ability to cope with uncertainty and our lack of overall control as related to this pandemic.
I am reminded of the biblical story where Moses leads the Exodus of the Israelites out of Egypt. They wandered through the desert; eventually, the followers became restless and Moses loses control of his people. God came to Moses on Mount Sinai. Moses scribed the Ten Commandments as God shared them with him.
So here is what I know for sure as we are alone together, trying our very best to navigate this pandemic:
1. Thou will have a First Communion eventually
2. Thou will not have a traditional 8th-grade graduation
3. Thou is responsible for thy own happiness
4. Thou can only worry about things they can control
5. When thou is overwhelmed, talk about it; no one can read your mind
6. Thou must have patience
7. Kindness is free, be generous
8. Good health and being safe is all that matters right now
9. Thou will return to celebrating Mass as a community eventually
10. Thou shall remember....this too shall pass
Father St. Marie had a sign in his office that read: Don't sweat the small stuff...and it's ALL small stuff. Please try to count your blessings. Remember to pray. Know that God is always watching over you.
Godspeed,
Mrs. Hibler
Thoughts from Fr. Joe
Dear parents,
Believe that our Bishops have your best spiritual interest at heart. They know that, particularly during this time, you need God and the Eucharist and the sacraments. Still, they also know that it is imperative to preserve the greater good, which is saving human lives by cooperating with civil authorities in the containment and mitigation of this deadly disease. Have trust in the gifts of the Holy Spirit that they (Bishops) have received, and believe that their advice comes after prayerful reflection. Continue to pray for an end of this contagion. In time, our church will be “liberated” of restrictions, and we will worship again as a faith community.

Happy Birthday, Miss Zoey!
All packed up and ready to go!
Sadly, your child’s remaining items have been boxed up and ready to go, as well as any extra materials they may need these next few weeks. Our school staff has spent the last two weeks preparing these boxes.
I’d like to give a shout out to our local Elyria Home Depot, and Pro Touch Remodeling, (owner and parent Dave and Erin Morgan) for donating these boxes to St. Jude School.
You will NEED to keep your labeled box; it is what you will use when you return items during the week of May 25th.
Procedures for Pick Up:
1. Select a date and time that is convenient for you.
Tuesday, May 5th: 12 p.m.-2 p.m.
Wednesday, May 6th: 5 p.m.-7 p.m.
Thursday, May 7th: 9 a.m.-11 a.m.
2. Please utilize the “morning drop off” line when coming to pick up your boxes.
Pull around to Carrabine Hall. Cones will be set up; please pull up to the first cone.
We will personally bring your boxes to your vehicle, open your trunk or door, and wait for delivery.
Once you pull away, and the next cars will pull up and follow the above procedure.
There will be NO getting out of your vehicle, and our staff will be wearing masks.
PATIENCE, this will take a few minutes, we are not Chic-fil-a LOL.
3. Please note, per the Health Department, these boxes have been sitting in a disinfected Carribine for the required 72 hours and are safe to be taken home.
If you have any questions or concerns, please email Mrs. Hibler; mhibler@stjudejaguars.orgCalling all 8th Grade Parents
The slideshow for the 8th grade is a tradition at St. Jude. I am asking for 3-5 pictures of each 8th-grade student. The pictures can be current or from younger years. They can be a group or individual photos. I will create a slideshow to music to share, digitally with the 8th graders. Every year, the 8th-grade students love to see pictures of themselves and friends, as they have grown through their years at St. Jude. I would like to have all the pictures emailed to me by Friday, May 15. I thought that this could be a surprise for the kids, but I realize that the kids are aware that this is done every year, and they probably have some pictures that they would like to be included. Please feel free to email me with any questions or ideas:)
