GMS Principal's Corner

February 6, 2022

Dear Galvin Families,

At the Galvin we are celebrating Black History Month in our classes, during X-Block, through literature and art, over morning announcements, and with several after school activities. A sample of events include student/teacher planning and collaboration to design our main lobby bulletin board, a 6th grade performance and Q&A session from RIBS (Rhode Island Black Storytellers) sponsored by GMS CAPT, and students sharing inspirational quotes to celebrate the month. We thank all students and staff for helping to celebrate Black History Month.

Thank you,

GMS Administration

Chromebooks: Important Reminder

It is our students' responsibility to bring their charged Chromebook to school with them each day. We have a very limited number of loaners available and are using those to first support students who's Chromebooks aren't working. The Chromebook is an essential, daily, school supply. Please help your child come up with a process that allows them to have their device ready for school each day. Thank you.

GMS Talent Show

Get your popcorn ready because the Galvin is having a talent show on Friday March 25th at 6:30 pm! If you would like to sign up, use google classroom code aizqwpg on your school Gmail account. The show will be virtual and a link to view the show will be available the week of March 21st.

Livestream with Author

For the past two weeks, some of our GMS students and staff have been reading Jacqueline Woodson's acclaimed memoir, Brown Girl Dreaming. The author uses verse to tell her family story, recount her experience growing up amid the remnants of Jim Crow and the growing Civil Rights movement, and reflect on the joy of finding her voice through writing. We've also held weekly virtual book club sessions to discuss the book.

On Wednesday, we participated in a moving and engaging live stream session with Ms. Woodson where she discussed her experiences and her writing, and answered questions.
