WHERE?
Islam originated in Mecca and in Medina. Both Mecca and Medina are located in Saudi Arabia. Islam spread to east Asia, Central Europe, and North Africa.
WHEN?
Islam began in the 7th century, approxamately 600 A.D.
WHO?
Islam as a religion was established by Muhammad, a member of the Arabic Quraish tribe from the West Central part of the Arabian Peninsula in Mecca. Mohammed lived from 570 A.D. to 632 A.D. One day Muhammed recieved a revelation form the angel Gabriel in 610 A.D. The reason he recieved this was to be a prophet to the Arabic people to promote monotheism and a belief in Allah, the God in Islam.

People who live in countries in the Middle East or North Africa, nearly two-thirds (62%) of Islams live in the Asia-Pacific region. There are about 1.6 billion Islams (23%) of the world's population, making Islam the second largest religion.
