Queer Theory soundtrack
by Connor Caldwell
Queer Theory is the theory that ones sex does not always define ones sexual wants, gender, or lifestyle. This matters in the world because not everyone will be heterosexual or cis(being the same gender as your sex). Anyone could fall under Queer theory and you not know it, and even if you know it you should treat them the way you want to be treated.
Rocky Horror Picture Show - Sweet Transvestite
Richard O'Brien “Sweet transvestite” 1973,1975
This song is sang in the movie and play The Rocky Horror Picture Show/Rocky Horror Show by Dr.Frank N' Furter who is a transvestite or cross dresser. transvestites are part of LQBTQ+ which is a big part of Queer theory.
If We Were Gay - NSP
ninja sex party “If we were gay” 2011
This song is a bit stupid but that is the point, and it also sums up a big part of being gay trust me I should know. The term gay is often used as a broad term but in reality it is only homosexual men that are gay, homosexual women are lesbians. Ether way the two make up a big part of the LGBTQ+.
David Bowie - The Width of a Circle
David Bowie “Width of a circle” 1970
This song is gay because in it he says "Got laid by a young bordello". A bordello is a place where men can visit prostitutes. Which makes this song possibly gay because they tell the gender of the prostitute.
Village People - YMCA OFFICIAL Music Video 1978
Village People “Y.M.C.A.” 1978
The Y.M.C.A. is a gay song you can tell by looking in the lyrics like "you can hang out with all the boys". Another reason is if you watch the music video you can see the reasons, no straight man wears that much leather or his shirt that open.
Take On Me - NSP
A-ha “Take On Me” 1985 covered: Ninja Sex Party "Take On Me" 2016
This song can be counted as a gay song because they never specify the gender of the person that they singing to. So if a girl sings it to a girl or a guy to a guy it can make it gay.
Matt Fishel - "The First Time" (Official Music Video)
Matt Fishel "The First Time" 2011
This song fall into Queer Theory because the song is about a guy falling for another guy. The music video shows the having a good time and also kissing which makes them not straight.
Matt Fishel - "Radio-Friendly Pop Song" (Official Music Video)
Matt Fishel "Radio-Friendly Pop Song" 2013
This song falls into Queer theory and shows how children are made to think and how the media covers up any thing not straight."Change all the hims into hers And just don't tell the world that you're shh" this is one of the song lyrics to make a song more "radio friendly".
Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up
Rick Astley “Never gonna give you up” 1987
This is another song that can be both because it never uses pronouns that are gender specific, so they could be singing about any gender. The singer only uses pronouns such as "baby" so the song could for any gender.
