What is 6th grade orientation?
6th grade orientation is from 4pm to 7pm for all incoming 6th graders, who all attend at the same time. In addition to normal jump start activities such as passing out schedules, taking yearbook/school/ID photos, assigning lockers and distributing agendas, we provide time to get to know some members of our staff, tours of the building, student to student intro activities and general student information.
ALL rising 6th graders should plan to be dropped off at 4 amd picked up at 7 on August 18th. Students only.
What is Jump Start and why is it only for 7th and 8th graders?
We hold a jump start for 7th and 8th graders to complete the following activities:
obtain the schedules of classes
assign lockers
pass out agendas
take yearbook/school/ID photo
have time to walk the building and find their classes (optional)
We ask that students be dropped off in this order by last name:
A-F 9:00 am
G-K 10:30 am
L-P 11:30 am
Q-Z 12:30 pm
If your student needs to switch a time within the 9-230 time frame that is ok. This is a drop off, student event only. If your student cannot make this day we encourage your student to attend a make up day below.
What Parent Orientations are being offered?
August 19th: 7th and 8th grade parent orientation 6pm-7pm Parents only
August 25: 6th grade parent orientation 6-7pm Parents only
These meetings will take place in person at West Bloomfield Middle School in the cafeteria. We will also record and email the information after the events take place.
What is Athlete Night and should I attend?
We hold it to assist parents with building awareness about after school sports offered in the middle school.
Parents will have the opportunity to:
meet some coaches
see the calendars for our teams
register on the district website
pay to participate
turn in health forms
learn about the sports we offer, competitions and try outs
If your student want to play a sport please take the time this summer to complete the required health forms attached below.
What if my student cannot make jump start or 6th grade orientation?
August 20th: make up jump start: 9-2pm Students only
New date added August 24th: make up jump start: 11am-1pm (no photos taken) Students only
Both of these make up dates can be for any student in any grade who cannot attend the regular jump start or orientation times. Students may attend at any time during these 2 dates and ranges of times.
During the make up dates we:
distribute the schedules of classes to students
assign lockers
pass out agendas
have time to walk the building and find their classes (optional)
Students who attend the make up dates will have yearbook/school ID photos taken at a make up date in the fall during the school day
If your student will MISS ALL of these dates:
1. the student can see the class schedule on Power School after August 19th
2. Lockers and agendas can be given on the first day of school
3. school photos will be taken in school during make ups dates
School required vaccinations
Don’t forget - summer is a great time to get your student up to date on their school required vaccinations.
Seventh grade students and new to the district students must be fully compliant with state required vaccinations in order to attend public school, both in person and virtual Most kids this age are due for their Tdap and Meningococcal vaccinations, however, your student may be missing other vaccinations or require additional vaccinations. This link shows what the school required vaccinations are: https://www.michigan.gov/documents/mdhhs/School_Req_for_Parents_553547_7.pdf
Every 7th grade student (and students new to the district) need to meet ONE of the following criteria before October 10, 2021:
Be fully compliant with the state vaccination schedule
OR
Have a medical waiver turned in to the office from their physician
OR
Have attended immunization education with the county and received a non-medical waiver.
Waiver Education appointments can be scheduled by calling 1-800-848-5533. These appointments fill fast.
