Full Week of School
Message from Mr. Burns
Hi Wims Families,
I know many families are getting ready for the Super Bowl. I hope you enjoy the evening no matter whether you are rooting for the Chiefs or 49ers. My family is keeping it low key with making some appetizers and just relaxing with each other. Enjoy!
This week we will be celebrating “Valen-KIND Week.” Students will be participating in different activities throughout the week in their classrooms and around the building to teach about the importance of being kind, inclusive, and showing empathy for others. We will kick off the week with a Spirit Week including different themes to promote kindness. Students also have the opportunity to contribute to a community service project collecting items throughout the week to support “The Clarksburg Little Free Pantry.” Please see these fliers for more information.

Read Across America Week
We're excited to announce that we are celebrating Read Across America Week at Wims from February 26-March 1, 2024. The media center staff are reaching out to families to see if anyone would like to come to Wims and read in a classroom for 20-30 minutes. Please complete THIS Google Form and to access teachers' schedules for the week (You do not have edit access to the Google Doc). Mrs. Hall will update the schedule based on when responses from the Google Form are received.
Kids Heart Challenge
Registration for the Kids Heart Challenge is now open! Our community counts on lifesavers like you. Please sign your student up for our Kids Heart Challenge so they can learn how to keep their hearts and brains healthy while raising funds to help kids with special hearts. By completing Finn’s Mission, they’ll also learn the lifesaving skill of Hands-Only CPR and how to recognize a stroke. You will also earn money for new PE equipment for our school by donating. All donations will be done online; no cash or checks will be accepted at school. Our school goal this year is to raise $14,000. If the goal is reached, those students who donated will get to tape Mr. Smith to the wall with duct tape! To sign up, click the link below!!! If your child is in grades 3-5, please use their block two teacher they go to specials with as the teacher when registering. Donations will be accepted through February 29th. Lastly, the classes in K-2 and 3-5 who raise the most money will get a free choice PE day! Thanks for your support!

From the PTA Board
Dear Families,
Thank you to everyone who attended our February PTA Meeting - it’s hard to believe there are just 4 meetings left under my first year as your President. Thank you to all who attend our meetings (in-person or on Zoom). We are grateful to you!
At last night’s meeting, our PTA Delegate provided survey links to share feedback with MCPS on 3 important issues: the Community Engagement Officer (CEO) position in our schools, inclement weather notifications & make-up days, and the school menu. Please share your opinions with MCPS by taking these brief surveys, which appear in the “Community Corner” part of this message below. In addition, if you have not yet voiced your concern with the budget cuts affecting the Damascus High School Renovation project, please use this link to sign onto the group letter or this template to draft a personal letter to County Council members here. In an area where redistricting is often considered, this health and safety issue affects us all. Your voice is important, and we encourage you to advocate for our students. The PTA will be seeking a new Delegate for the 2024-25 school year. This is an important role, responsible for sharing community information with our school community. If you are interested, please reach out to me at president@wwespta.org.
Finally, we spent time at our meeting on “gratitude.” The PTA Board shared the special lunch and unique Wims’ Spiritwear that we provided to our Building Services team (picture below). They are the heart and soul of our school, and the PTA wanted them to know we appreciate all they do. We thanked our “invisible volunteers” - those who may not be prominent at events, but who work tirelessly behind the scenes stuffing holiday goodie bags, coordinating the after-school programming we all love, and much more. We also recognized our “invisible donors.” These are the individuals who donate concessions and items to make our events successful, provide us with free, beautiful color copies, office supplies, stamps, and any number of things that afford us the opportunity to use PTA funds for our students and staff, instead of on these things. We are grateful to every one of you for keeping us up and running.
Have a Wonderful Wildcat Week!
~ The PTA Executive Board
Thank You Building Service Team!
On February 2nd, the PTA provided a special lunch for our Building Services team from Mission BBQ. In addition, they were given unique Wims’ wear designed just for them. Thank you, Building Services, for making our school a safe and beautiful place for our students!

It’s time for our Wildcats to showcase their amazing talents! Past acts have included dance and cheer, martial arts, dance, instrumental acts, singing, and even speed Rubix cubing! WE NEED YOUR PHOTOS!
Community Corner
YOUR VOICE MATTERS! Share your opinion with MCPS:
The Community Engagement Officer (CEO) 2.0 program was launched in 2022 in response to concerns that were raised about the previous School Resource Officers (SRO) program. The most significant change is that the CEO 2.0 program does not have police officers stationed inside of our high schools. Instead, each CEO is assigned one high school cluster that they are in charge of partnering with and responding when called upon by the school leadership. Take the survey here
Share your feedback on inclement weather notification and how make-up days will be handled by taking this survey.
The Montgomery County Public Schools Division of Food & Nutrition Services (DFNS) strives to provide high- quality, nutritious school meals, fueling students to learn each day. DFNS is seeking feedback from students, parents/guardians, and staff. Results of this feedback will directly inform menu and recipe development.
