As you know, we have the BEST cafeteria staff EVER at Gunter ISD. During the March meeting, the ladies were brought before the Board of Trustees to recognize the fact that our GISD cafeterias are participants of the Farm Fresh Challenge created by the Texas Department of Agriculture. This is a challenge to Texas cafeterias to bring local foods and garden-based learning activities to their campuses and communities. Our cafeterias do a great job at this!
Thank you, Mrs. Rogers and your staff, for loving what you do and taking care of the students at each campus!

Reading Under the Stars

Sounds like some great family fun!
World Down Syndrome Day
Finnley Pines celebrated World Down Syndrome Day on March 21st with Mr. Dodd and his teachers at Gunter Middle School. The WDSD 2023 Theme is “With Us Not For Us’. At GMS, the theme this year is GMS Rocks, and the group is "rocking" their new shirts!
What is Ecology? Natural Selection?
Coach Mac's classes are studying about the Natural Selection of Finches. His classes used different items to represent different beak shapes. The groups used their beaks to "eat" different treats that represent the different food sources available on the different islands of the Galapagos Islands. Students were able to differentiate between the beaks and which food sources are easier to eat for each species.
The unit included three food types and three beak types. The students kept a tally to see how many items they could eat with each beak. Looking at their totals, you can see that some beaks are better for certain foods! This particular lab closed out the Natural Selection Unit.
Thanks, GIFT!
Mrs. Greene's students are enjoying the books Restart and Refugee that were purchased using the GIFT grant received this year. The GIFT organization makes many dreams come true!
Students of the Month at GMS
5th Grade - Mason Dainauski
Mason is involved in football, baseball, and basketball, and names his PE class as his favorite subject. When he's not in school or playing sports, Mason likes to go fishing and listen to Luke Bryan. In the future, he hopes to become a Major League Baseball player.
6th Grade - Alli Villagrana
Alli is a softball, volleyball and basketball player. When she's not on the court or field, she enjoys fishing. Her favorite subject in school is math, and she enjoys listening to Cody Johnson. Her future ambition is to become a professional softball player.
7th Grade - Colby Rizor
Colby is involved in football and track. His favorite subject is science, which is good because his future ambition is to have a career in science. When he's not competing in football or track at school, he likes to play baseball with friends. His favorite musician is Blake Shelton.
8th Grade - Addison Griffin
Addison is a GMS Band member who also loves history. When she is not studying, you can find her listening to music; mainly Kenny Chesney. Addison wants to attend Texas A&M University in the future.
3rd Cycle - GMS Rock Stars
The 2022-2023 theme for Gunter Middle School is GMS Rocks which makes sense because we have a “rock-star” staff and student body. Now that we've sailed through the 3rd 9 weeks, it's time to sing some praises!
Each teacher selected a “rock-star” student to honor for the 3rd 9 week grading period. Congratulations to:
Raylan Eckenrode, Brielle Moore, Brittyn Wilcocks, Brynn Breeding, Caleb Robinson, Hudson Genthner, Kayden Robison, Brinley Beavers, Tess O'Daniel, Sydnee Michael, Benny Pena, Sofia Lowrey, Briley Esnard, Riley Cassidy, Colby Rizor, Adrianna Falcon, Sarah Smith, Atalaya Fenner, Jentri Backshies, Ethan Marks, Blake Boland, Alex Valenzuela, Zaiden Choate, Emersyn Lytle, Melanie Martinez, Anna Kruzie
You're hard work has been noticed! Keep up the good work.
School Grounds
Mrs. Clement and the yearbook staff got the pages done for the first round of edits, and decided to celebrate. They set up a "School Grounds" coffee bar to celebrate and share with the GMS faculty. Coffee and hot chocolate warmed them up in the cool spring, rainy weather! Their tagline to invite their teachers was, "Internet Coffee House, a great place to recharge!". Perfect!
Sock Donation
The GHS Student Council held a sock drive and donated them to Grand Central Station (a homeless shelter in Sherman). We love to see our Tigers doing nice things for other people!
A Comic Routine
Combining their artistic skills with what they are learning in Spanish, Mrs. Nichols' Spanish 2 students created comic strips with descriptions and drawings of their daily routines. Learning is fun in her classroom. Great work, students!

Graduation is a special time for our seniors, and we can’t think of a more special place to have the graduation than our own Tiger Field. To make that happen, we have decided to change the 2023 Graduation date to Thursday, May 25th at 8:00 PM. Making this change gives us the opportunity to make alternative plans in case the weather does not cooperate.
Our new plan looks like this:
- Graduation - Thursday, May 25th | 8:00 PM
- In the event of inclement weather on Thursday, Graduation will be held on Friday, May 26th at 9:00 AM
- If bad weather persists throughout both days, Graduation will be moved into the GHS Event Center (Main Gymnasium) and held Friday morning at 10:00 AM. If we have to move the ceremony inside, seating will be limited. Each graduate will be given 10 tickets for family/friends.
We are looking forward to making this event as special as we can for the Class of 2023.
